The walk speed of horses is roughly the run speed of infantry. When grouped, all units are intended to move at the exact same speed.

I like to keep my general out of harms way so he's usually far enough behind that his influence just reaches the the front group of troops. He does catch up to them while everyone is walking but it takes long enough that they're probably in place by the time that happens. I have noticed formations not staying perfectly together, but only a few times and it was always the yari ashigaru out of place so I just played it off as their inexperience in formations due to being peasants with sticks basically. But now that they're ranked up a bit, they're badass peasants with sticks that don't run from anything!
I'm really enjoying this game thus far. My favorite TW up until now was medieval 2(I never got that much into Rome) but Shogun 2 is now by far my favorite. The ai seems intelligent enough so far, they've definitely foiled my plans on occasion. The diplomacy ai is also much better I think. I've only played through 1 campaign so far so it might be too soon to decide, but so far I haven't had any uncalled for back stabs.

This game could honestly give out hand jobs for free and people would still bitch.

I would like to add my voice to the chorus of praise; this total war game is the best one so far. To anyone wondering whether to buy it after a poor experience with empire; buy it. Its worth it.
That said, for all the complaints about unnecessary patches, I do hope they release an actual major patch some time soon; there are bugs of all kind scattered throughout the game. Nothing game-breaking, but annoyingly noticeable nonetheless- and hopefully minor enough that they can be fixed easily.

The diplomacy ai is also much better I think. I've only played through 1 campaign so far so it might be too soon to decide, but so far I haven't had any uncalled for back stabs.
I don't know if this is an intended feature, but in my current game, it has happened thrice that a medium-sized clan declared on one of my one-province-vassals (gotta keep that expansion down somehow), whereupon I swiftly handed their asses to them (resulting in yet more territory expansion- dammit). One of the times, it was one of my allies who declared on them, but I was the one who had to foot the honour penalty for breaking an alliance.
As I said, this might be intended. But it sure is stupid- I think it would be better if the AI regarded vassals as being part of their parent nation, rather than tiny bitesized chunks of fodder.

I'm gonna get a new motherboard/processor+extra RAM for this. Our current processor is pretty ancient, and the demo was already laggy as hell. No way it could properly run the game.

The game sounds great, though. Has anyone tried multiplayer yet?

Yeah, I've played a lot. It's really fun, really functional. There is a matchmaking service that ties you to players of generally the same skill, and in the competitive game, you can keep units that gain veteran status, and reuse them, leveling them up, slowly, but making them cost more for deployment.

While I am absolutely sure they toned them down... PLEASE tell me the Geisha is still in the game and still an awsome assasine.

IIRC, Geisha start with max 'assassinations n shit' skill, but are always visible on the map and are vulnerable to Metsuke and Monks.

So, I noticed on youtube there are no Geisha failure videos from the first Shogun. This was actually explicitly mentioned. Are Geisha just unkillable save by other Geisha?

Ohh it is because Geisha couldn't fail

That was their advantage over ninjas. They just kept trying until they succeed at an assasination and wouldn't die.

The fact that they don't die from failure is a huge advantage in it of itself.

In the first game they weren't unkillable except by other Geisha. It is just that at the highest level of Geisha even Ninjas had no chance against them.

They are however a bit of a higher tier unit, probably intended to show up around the late game in order to speed things up a bit. It requires going down the tech tree quite a bit, building a building that can only be built if you have access to the silk trade good, which is possible to just not have.

Mod just released that reduces the effects of realm divide, letting you actually keep your vassals and closest allies, and not making diplomacy utterly useless in the late game.

I love you. And the person who made that mod.

By the way, the battle ai on legendary difficulty setting is crazy. So freaking hard. I have rarely been put to the test in an rts like this ai.

I haven't had the nerve to try it yet.

Does the enemy get buffs, or is the difficulty purely AI?
