Something I noticed in the video: A cavalryman died, but his horse didn't. YES.

Although I am somewhat disappointed that they're focusing, yet again, on graphics rather than gameplay. It's pre-alpha. Fix your AI, then get the graphical update. CA does not seem to get how game design should actually work.

Is it just me or did it look like the battles were progressing more smoothly? When units meet in most Total War games they tend to bunch off into fairly unnatural looking groups and the combat tends to look fairly hokey. This looks more real. Maybe it's just the dark lighting of the gameplay trailer though :P

I can only hope there will be a good diplomatic AI, while the combat AI was ok in Rome, both in Shogun and Rome it ruined a lot of my fun and immersion when the diplomatic AI was so ridiculous.

An AI down to only a dozen of soldiers and a little area was always refusing any basic cease-fire against an overwhelming gigantic empire, the same that an AI that was you ally was more than very often attacking your towns the following turn he made the alliance with you.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

That shouldn't have worked in Empire, though.

I had good fun with Empire, but like Rome and M2, Vanilla doesn't last long, so they better fucking get over their modding phobia and actually let people mod their games and this time not lie about it by saying "We'll release modding tools soon" then never actually do it.

Medieval 2 and Rome are the best in the series simply because of the mods.

Yeah Empire had Darth mod but that's just small changes, it doesn't actually change stuff to the scale of Europa Barbarorum and the numerous mods for M2.

More than likely, the game will be basiclly unplayable at release. All of my hope rests on the brillant modding community, like you said Rilder, and I hope CA does not fuck up harcoded shit, like diplomacy (which can only be tweaked and not redone by mods) and pathfinding. Besides this, I say more power to them if they try to make it look pretty, becuase the fans/modders are the ones who make total war fun anyway.

Shogun 2 has the best chance of replacing Rome:TW as my favorite in the series, based on everything I've seen, and everything they have promised. Of course, nothing can be held for certain until the game is released, but I prefer to keep hope alive in spite of the Crushing agony that was Empire.

That's what everyone hopes, but CA has shown every single time with their games that it is simply impossible for them.

Here's hoping to firsts.

Did anyone else cringe every time that guy in the video tried to say a Japanese word?  I sure hope the actual ingame voice actors have any idea how to pronounce the language their characters supposedly speak.  Otherwise I guess there isn't much to say about the game from that one vid which I can't even watch in HD on this crappy laptop. :(

The battles speeches are in Japanese. I don't speak it, so I have no idea how good the accents are. It would be awesome if the accents were affected by where they were from in Japan.
