Oh, silly me :-[

But yeah, when it does come out, the first thing I want to know is whether the enemy units march into arrow range and just stand there while you whittle away.

According to RPS, the battle AI is pretty incompetent on Normal and below and then rapidly accelerates to "Holy shit, I am getting fucked here" on Hard and above.

Because it is a good tactician or because it cheats and gets better units than the player?

Good tactician, apparently.

Or the reviewer is a bad tactician and repeatedly falls for same tricks (like the good old outflanking in Napoleon).

Clearly the only way a proper opinion can be formed is by actually playing the game yourself.

Well, I got it the preorder given to me for my 22nd Birthday. If you want to wait, until release day, I'll post a lengthy review here after experimenting for a few hours.

I was going through the IGN impressions and came across this:

Quote
It's even possible to opt into another's campaign mode, which means you basically invade someone's single-player campaign, taking the spot of the AI in one of their battles (this option can be disabled when creating a single-player campaign if you'd rather not potentially face off against human opponents).

Well well welllllll..... fuck the AI! This is far more awesome!

Multiplayer: Going around wrecking single player armies with overwhelming stupid AI forces unexpectedly.

Yeah, never knowing if the AI you're facing is a person or the computer could add an odd level of interesting depth. Do you want to attack an army that, if controlled by a half-way intelligent human, could probably best you? There were times in Rome: Total War, for example, where I'd attack and defeat armies so ludicrously more powerful than mine that if it were controlled by any given person, could just sweep me aside without noticing.

For example, there is no way I would win a battle between my 300 light horsemen versus 2000 Greek phalanx soldiers, if the opponent was a human. With Computer AI, on the other hand, I've pulled that off.
