Hi!

They should build a Scientology center in the mosque when it's finished. Because, you know, freedom of religion and stuff.

Well, you can't really argue about freedom of religion within private property (^_^;;

I don't know what I'm saying there. I don't think I have a motive. I just think it would be hilarious to have a big building with every single churchybuilding around it, like a mall food court. Or all built inside each other like nesting dolls.

Actually, that is kind of an interesting idea. Imagine to have that mall food court of religions. And then pressure (as in make it their moral duty) those people claiming strong allegiance with a religion to actually visit the sermons of their religion there. I could be quite interesting to see how those people are confronted - especially if they attend service together with their families and have to explain to their children how what the children see relates to what daddy may say in public.

If you lumped all the world's religious centres around a food court, the food court would rapidly turn into a bloodbath.

Have you never picked up a history book? Or seen a religious zealot, even in media? People aren't actually that worried about slaughtering their enemies in front of their kids.

Hi!

Grakelin: I don't know about that. I know about history and I also see the sick actions of some pseudo-theocratic states. However, on the other hand, since we are talking about the US, there is also the very strong tendency to pretend to be the good guys. And talking about hate is still something other than smashing in the head of a five-year old in front of your own five-year-old.

Also note that I did not say that only zealots should be allowed there, so there is also the potential that people from the same faith may actually restrain the more extreme ones. A slim chance, I admit, but something that might happen.

You have a very romanticized view of the United States, if you think people there wouldn't do harm to others in front of their kid.

Because they do. All the time.

Also, such a site might attract the most insane and extreme religious people from each group.

Again, the walls would need to be very sturdy.

You are making religions sound like some kind of violent street gangs that murder people left and right, and are only kept from killing each other by geographical distance. :P

Really, how many cases of God-mandated homicide does New York face in a month? Perhaps my trust in your American justice system is unfounded, but my guess would be that most people who wouldn't think twice about killing someone in front of hundreds of witnesses are in prison for killing someone in front of hundreds of witnesses.

Thinking from a purely RTS perspective, it would be helpful to place the mosque right across the street.

Zone of protection sort of thing.
And from a TBS perspective, a mosque gives an extra point of happiness to the city, making it less likely to riot, which if it happened, would make terrorist operations in the city cheaper and more likely to succeed. Plus, it'll generate more culture each turn. Gotta keep the Canadians down.

It's okay, the Eastern part of Canada's territory isn't making enough shields, they'll probably culture flip soon enough. Some of them are even flipping into their own country. We should try focusing more on LA and one other city to try to score a quick Cultural Victory.

If you'd read the rest of the thread, you'd know that the mosque is not being built on ground zero. Also, you would know that there are plans for a tower to be built there, with said mosque happening to be a block or two away, in an area traditionally zoned for religious buildings. I see no problem with this, as the mosque will not teach extremism.

Lol, I don't read past 5 pages of threads, because most of them are derails :P And the news article I read on it a few weeks back said/strongly suggested it was on ground zero. Putting a mosque on top of a former church seems a bit wrong (assuming that is what they're doing). Then again, all over the world, you have churches being sold to muslim groups and converted into mosques, so 9/11 or not, it would've happened anyway.

Eh, I think if you follow the Rhye's and Fall system, a worship building to something other than the state religion reduces stability. But I'm really not sure what religious civic America uses.

They use the Free Religion civic but stop maintaining cities that receive Islam, causing the population to panic.

Hi!
First they discriminated Muslims and I didn't complain as I am not a Muslim.
Then they discriminated Mormons and I didn't complain as I am not a Mormon.
Then they discriminated my people and there was no one left to help me, so I quit the emo shit and got my rifle.

I think they're using freedom of religion. It'd make sense, at least. All the religions started in America are kind of small, so the holy-city-bonuses they could get wouldn't be much, anyway.

Cultural victory would make a lot of sense, since they've somehow managed to score themselves all three the late-game cultural wonders. There's still forty years left, though, and they've pretty much got the whole tech tree. They could go for space victory.
