The lumberjacks chop on and Ivan dares not to leave, what with the recent attacks.

Orders: For one more week, the forest shall fall before the axes.

Uskicia
In a field just outside the walls, twelve deadly beasts lie. They roar defiance at the sky with their gaping mouths, their stomachs rumbling loudly as they spit rocks at the sun. Their keepers scamper around them, attempting desperately to keep them controlled, yet always being forced to flee and cover their ears as one loudly proclaims itself lord of the land.
The beasts become subdued after belching, so the keepers wait until they have finished before running forwards and grooming and feeding them. The keepers work swiftly, however, for they know that the beasts will not be quiet for long, and indeed, within minutes, the beasts are up again, loosing their deadly spittle upon the land.

Harkon watches the new recruits tend to the cannons for a few moments, before turning to his more experienced soldiery and motioning them forwards. They ride west, bound for the Saracen fortress that menaces over the plains. The gunners are left to acquit themselves with the handling of their charges, study the charts of ranges and angles, and practice their skills on old barns.

The infantry in Rostovondon is disbanded. A unit is recruited in Uskicia, and introduced to the vicious cannonbeasts which have arrived there, courtesy of Nansen.
Harkon takes his cavalry and rides west four tiles, to (31,15)

Nansen's cavalry proceeds west to (27,15) and prepares to lay siege to the city.

Nansen tucked his general's orders and his own scouting reports into his armor and rode west. His first combat with the barbarians was almost there. He and his troops would not fail.

"My Lord, a most crushing victory." His squire complimented.

Gawaren chuckled in return. "It takes no skill to kill some undisciplined desert bandits, you ought to know that. "
Still the victory was useful- His men were now more confident, and even Gawaren welcomed the change. But now he had to face the boring desert again.

But it seemed that he (and his men!) became accustomed to the desert. The heat wasn`t so unbearable anymore, and it became easier to read the subtle signs that hint at water.. A useful skill, without doubt.

"Break up my tent. We will move."

Argoss gazed resolutely across the plains stretching out before him. His men were replenished, and he felt similarly reinvigorated.
Soon, his true test would begin, and he would know if abandoning the Pope had been the correct move.

Orders:

Argoss returns to Halcyon, then advances north, ending up just above the upper rightmost tile of Halcyon (24,11).

The road gradually became steeper and rockier, and soon the army was marching between two mountain ranges. There was nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. This pass would prove very usefull to block all traffic from and to the city. As they had seen from the map, the only other exit was via the water on the other side of the city, and even the saracens wouldn't dare to send valuable goods on a ship over a wild mountain river.

The city was not visible untill they got very near, and Adriaen quickly ordered the men to a halt - they should not come within range before the assault. From this distance, one could see tiny, excited figures running around on the wooden walls, undoubtedly realizing they were trapped. They had brought several logs with them from the forest, but that didn't slow them down too much, and soon the tents were set up and a crude watch tower raised. "We'll let them attack when their hunger overcomes their fear. But in case they manage to get provisions via the river, let the men build a ram and a catapult."

-

Adriaen and his units lay siege to the city on 7-8, but do not assault. They halt on 9-7.

"What's that? There is a Saracen city not a month west of here?" Arthur raised his head from his maps to eye Bin Mayaddah.

"Yes, my Lord," replied the Saracen general meekly. "A couple of weeks should be more than enough to get there at our current speed"

"Why didn't you inform me of that earlier? No matter. Send out the scouts, we might as well take whatever we can. I'm sure the pope would be pleased to have this danger removed, what with it being so close to the Papal city and all."

With that, the plans suddenly changed, and the fleet of 200 set forth towards the setting sun.

Orders:
Move to 13,-7

The city had fallen.

The spoils of victory had come to him, and now he was going to reap everything he could from the city.

He estimated that he would easily be able to support more troops, so se sent a mesanger out to Hanomo.

ORDERS:
Raise another army at Hanomo and begin outfitting them with iron equipment

"My lord! We are under attack!"

The messenger had broken the peaceful atmosphere of Alexis's meal. He rose angrily from his roasted chicken and apple halves, and walked briskly to his sword, which hung in it's sheath on one of the tent walls.

"What's going on?"
"Saracan bandits, sir! It's an ambush!"
"Well let's take care of it, then."

Alexis unsheathed his sword and hurried to the tent door, only to be knocked back by another intruder. The guards immediately surrounded the mystery assailant, who turned out to be another of the Duke's soldiers.

"My lord," he stammered, "we- the attack is over, sir."
"What? Already?"
"Your lieutenants were am- amazingly successful, sir."

Alexis sheathed his sword and walked outside. Around the camp the ground was spotted with corpses.

"How many did we lose, Private?"
"I don't know, sir. But probably a lot: we got ambushed pretty bad."

In the end it turned out not a single Occidental man had died. The Saracan bandits, grossly misjudging the size of the Ducal party, had been completely obliterated. While the victory meant little in strategic terms, as bandits of all nationalities filled the landscape like a festering blight, it did much to raise the morale and self-confidence.

Edboy:

I know that you and Istrian have been discussing things over PM.
YET, DESPITE me saying so in the rules, AND Istrian reminding you via pm, you NEVER bothered to send me your side of the discussion, I only ever received Istrians messages to you.

Since none of your PMs that I received, nor your post, ever mention that Istrian is going to receive your help (which in the moves he PMd to me, he saw taken for granted), I will see this orders as nonexistant, and not send your men with Istrian.

I am actually quite pissed, because it was YOUR neglience to follow the rules, or post orders that are precise and complete, that he will suffer from that, rather than you. (unless this was on purpose, lol)

Let this be a warning to you EdBoy, and btw, to every other player.
When you communicate between each other, send me copies of the PMs. Else, things will be lost.

Should I see such a situation again, where players "forget" to abide by the rules, I will hand out penalties. Did I make myself clear? Good. Continue.

The river was much calmer than Adriaen had originally thought, and it would be impossible to starve the saracans now. But they didn't come here for nothing. Within a few days, two more catapults were built. There was more than enough munition in the rocks and boulders in the mountain pass, and under cover of the night, the deadly hail started raining down on the city, while the battering ram slowly crept forward, twenty soldiers under its roof struggling to keep the thing moving. Adriaen watched as the assault began, and waited just outside of bow range with the rest of the men. He felt strangely confident, even though he knew he and his men might well die today.

Walter de Bolbec was bored. He didn't come here to train some woodcutters into handling their axes, he came here to fight. Studying the maps of the surrounding terrain, he came that the conclusion that an attack was very unlikely, and if there was one, it would come from the east. None of the other generals would dare attack him, for they knew the king would punish them severely - after all, this was Cromwells city, and he had noticed his general had quite a good standing with the king. No, the only danger came from the Saracens, and the only Saracens came from the east, so that is where the fighting would be. When he sent his proposal to the general, the reply showed great surprise in this initiative - but Cromwell agreed that there was only benefit in bringing the attack to the enemy. Surely the men would be not very happy to leave for a journey of several months trough hills and forests, but they were in the army, they should learn to endure such things.

Orders:
Adriaen and his unit assault the walls of the city in the Alps. Bolbec and his unit move straight east, one or two tiles from the city, in the woods (so 15,2 or 16,2)
