@Aqizzar: neither side might actually want the war to escalate, but right now everyone there is high strung, and some soldiers might lose their nerve and start shooting, or some patriot will take his patriotism too literally, or an accident will happen, or a misunderstanding. The other side will respond in kind, and after the HQs will start receiving info on combat situations they might judge it as not being a random skirmish but the real thing, leading to a full blown conflict. How unlikely is that?

In other news, thanks to this thread I've learned that Vietnam War was a guerilla war, there were no actual armies or offensives(apparently they must've been destroyed by the US's air superiority doctrine), and the US fought bravely and solitarly(with a small help from a tribe of good Vietnamese) against the joint forces of North Vietnam and China, which consisted of peasants armed with AK47s.

Also, I've learnt that North Koreans have no sense of patriotism in them, and unlike North Vietnamese, they'd flop to the other side as soon as they'd seen McDonalds and heard about the glory of consummerism.

I don't doubt that bit about McDonalds, but consumerism? Probably not that great of an influence.

I love how Internet forums teach me so many things! It's amazing that we have so many experts here, who are willing to take time out of their busy schedules to distill their years of study, and the volumes of well-researched history they've written.

Truly, it is an embarassment of riches.

I'm not sure how serious this thread is, so I'm not going to state any opinions.

Ahem. It will go like this.

A. Bombs Fall.
B. Everybody Dies.

Skirmishes and gunplay happen all the time on the border. It happens all the time on other borders. The Iraq-Syria border has frequent border skirmishes because they just hate each other. A single fire fight will never escalate into a full on war, not with what is at stake.

Consider the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axe_murder_incident That was really, really awful for a border skirmish, yet it never devolved into a full scale war.

If a new Korean war happens it will be planned and sudden.

I don't want to offend the other 90% of North Koreans who are named Kim or Lee.

I'm not saying they're not creative. I'm just saying the Big Book of Korean Baby Names is not actually very long at all. It's like a lot of Americans named Smith, but for different reasons. Has anyone else noticed this?

Don't forget the 70% of South Koreans who are also called Kim or Lee.

Dunno why you'd think there are North Koreans viewing the Bay12 fourms anyways.
