Arrow lodged in throat.
« on: May 25, 2010, 08:11:31 am »

Murdering hordes of elven scum, but there's an arrow stuck in my throat. It's not life threatening, but it's causing bleeding, which is making it impossible to fast travel. Can I get some help?

...Try to wait it out. If you're legendary just enough, the bleeding will stop. Then you can travel.
Also, after that, you might want to enjoy the huge jagged scar.

Whups, looks like my elven Master Swordsman will have to be content with killing just 130 of her own kind.

This is a current bug. This type of minor non-stopping bleeding is a glitch and you WILL die.

This can happens on other body parts as well (lips and cheeks)

tourniquets have not yet been invented, neither have ladders, boats, lanterns, or even scabbards to hold any of the swords you may find. Dwarves will get around to inventing those things when they get bored of perpetual motion machines and self resetting spring loaded devices that embed axes into the faces of elves and whatever else springs to mind as the get wasted on mushroom ale.

Though you still probably wouldn't want to wrap a tourniquet around your neck.   :o

I wouldn't put it past a dwarven doctor.

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

I've always wondered, is there ANY way, even in reality and with modern medicine, to save someone who's had their throat slashed?

And yeah, you're doomed. If you feel lazy you might as well "give in to starvation" or retire and check legends to see if anything changed.

It's tough, but very possible. If you're just suffering from a gaping hole in your throat, you'll be fine with some bandages and pressure, then stitches and surgery. But if you've had your carotid artery slashed open, you're beyond fucked. There is, however, a bone around your wind pipe that, if broken, will lead to suffocation unless you get an emergency tracheotomy.

"Corroded artery" is an awesome spelling.

There's more than one goalie in hockey who's gotten their jugular sliced and lived to play another day.
