Games based on/in higher maths?
« on: May 25, 2010, 01:45:23 am »

Not that i would know it if i saw it...but i was wondering if y'all could point to some games based on/involving higher maths...real genius stuff that can't easily be explained to mere mortals... like me!  Say if Hawking or that Princetonian who solved Fermat's last therom were to make a game...

Then again, I consider Infinity to be overly ambitious, something that might easily spell it's downfall.

There's Polynomial. Fractal based space shooter. Don't know if it satisfies your "higher math" requirement fully but it certainly looks pretty.

I'm very slowly hashing out a Java-based game based on lower math, but actually teaching people how to solve things, like, solving equations by dragging and dropping (oh hey let's drag a 'squared' symbol onto the square root there, apply it to both sides, then drag the -137 from the left to the right side to add 137 to both sides).

I'm doing the design work with some friends.  Hoping to make it something that you could give to schools...or just let the genius kids of next decade play with.  Because seriously, a tool like that in a game context could bring someone from basic arithmetic to advanced geom + trig in a year, tops.  Presumably, once we get past trig, we'll move on to calculus and linear algebra...at which point it's entirely possible that fourth graders will be calculating eigenvectors and integrals.

(Not line integrals, though.  Eff those.)

...Don't expect any version to be released this year.

Deep man, deep.
Go to Jayisgames.com and look up all those froofy artsy indie games. Some of them have some real deep shit man, like, totally.

Oh, and try any of Zachtronic's games, they're all about programming and super hard technology/math related puzzles. Very fun if you're bored.
