« on: May 24, 2010, 11:40:16 am »

ok put your enterys in one of these 5 categories

THE SEAS

the former king the carp does it hold on to it crown?

THE LAND

both the Unicorn and the Elephant are the former kings do thay still rule?

THE SKYS
Tales of Giant eagles diveing out of the sun and eating dwarfs in one, fact or drunking rumor?

THE DEEP
some say men in the form of ants or bat roam in tribes, others that rock takes the form of man?
who know, but one most be king.

edit: randomized creatures are not in the runing A)there nevery the same B)there is no way to get them in the arena.

ok pick 4 beast that you think are the kings of there categorie and how good thay are at dwarf killing will be tested.

bonus points for looking humble.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

WATER:
while just about anything could kill a dwarf as they'll probably drown, the legends involving carp is still alive and well.

SKY:
i dunno.

THE DEEP:
Depends on whether we're talking about an armed and armoured dwarf or not.

Until animals are modded to be a threat to dwarves in general.  None.  Copper weapons and armor easily trumps any organic threat.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

So far I've been having more trouble with Sea Lamprey then with carp. In rivers near mountains that is...

Elephants don't do anything except scare everyone else and themselves. And occasionally strike down the sleeping wounded. So no, they're not kings of anything.

Beak dogs are far more annoying...

Only in dwarven culture is alcohol poisoning a death worthed investigating, while being impaled through several toes, a eye, and a thumb from a spiraling water[3] is not.  Because everyone knows, the only way a dwarf could get alcohol poisoning is if someone put poison into the alcohol.

That happens with just about anything that doesn't attack dwarves on sight.

The only trouble I had with elephants was when I accidentally trained one to be a war elephant without taming it first.

You can do that?

Hippos. My nemesis.  First fort I ever made was going well.  Until... the hippo attack.  I fisherdwarf got too close.  I was vaguely aware of the hippos.  I hadn't been concerned about them.  But then...

Puppy heads were everywhere (and listed as one in hippos mouth).  A few hippos got in the front doors and it was mass hysteria.  There were dwarf and puppy and war dog and rhesus monkey and camel limbs everywhere before i was able to beat them back.  At that point I only had wrestlers who promptly turned into limbs.  The few marksdwarfs I had used their ammo, firing wildly, then ran up to the hippos to beat them with cross bows. More limbs.

The river ran red and so did the fort entrance.  The large amount of stone traps I had merely angered the hippos, I think.

Err... Elephants can face-stop dwarves if you annoy them. I've lost several civilians to them. Besides, any animal which dies from drowning in magma deserves at least a little praise.

Nobody mentioned buzzards? A buzzard has stolen a Plump Helmet[5]!
Far more dangerous than any military threat ;).

What about Grimelings? On my current fortress, grimelings started killing woodcutters and fisherdwarves, so I sent 20 wrestlers at it.

20 minutes later, the Grimeling has over 35 pages of scars and all of its organs are horribly damaged, yet it can still hold up against 20 dwarves who have been pounding it for so long that they are starving to death. I also submerged one in magma for 10 minutes in the testing arena, but it won't die.

When you finally get your military together and send some axedwarves at it, then sure, you can kill it. For the starting fortress or a fort without full-time military patrols, it's a royal pain in the ass.

We should have another grand title for the most annoying creatures.
