It always shocks me that a country consistently decrying their own education system lets their kids out in the middle of May.

@Euld: Be a teacher, man. You can try to stand up inside the box, and pull an Atlas and throw away the lid, or you can fill up thousands of balloons and watch the lid just float away.
I dunno about being a teacher... I was a good student, but I could tell I didn't think the "proper" way.  Trying to be a teacher would just get me fired, I think.  But forcing the lid off myself?  I'd still need to inspire other people to help.  And then there's the tricky part: boxes have six sides, one of which could be the lid, but how well shut is it, and how much effort will it take to remove it?  There must be people pushing unsuccessfully against a few of the sides already, but where and how and who I wonder.

There are other realms besides our own. Who is to say that we are not in a stack of boxes, with more stacks around us? Are we at the center of a box cube? A time cube?

@Aklyon, Leo and Vector/ the kendo and karate topic: I guess it is just preference and style. I am an unflappable dude, so my opponents found the shouting rendered their rank and skill worthless. I suppose that yeah, you could scare people pretty easily, but why invoke fear when you can cause pain? I guess I will start screaming during any fighting. Is there a set thing to yell, or can I just do non-sequitur insults? "SHITBEARS!" "LOVELY SHOES!" and so on?

I've actually heard people shout so that they--no joke--sounded like dying chickens.  Also, invoking pain is pretty hard when you're armored from head to toe.  I don't get to stab people in the neck or face for reals until I become a "black belt."

"WAUUUUUUUUUUUGH" is an acceptable battle cry.

Wait, paying for high school?

NO

That sounds reasonable when you're a middle-class white person.

It is not reasonable if you are poor.

EDIT: And you need to rethink your entire strategy in regards to the college. Trade colleges already are apprentice programs. Academic apprenticeship is ridiculous and completely misses the point.

The thing is, you are not paying the massive (I think my school is $7500 a year) fees for facilities and materials and shit. It is just one teacher that you pay for, and they meet in public places like parks and libraries and learn like mad yo. According to the teacher from France who introduced me to the idea, her parents paid less for her teacher than they did for her materials.

I didn't pay $7500 a year for high school.

Did you? You realize that private schools don't count, right?

In a way where secondary education is achievable by people of all income brackets and is paid for through taxation. Ergo, what we already have. Did you/do you attend private school? I know a few people who did, and they seem to have gained this mythology that public schools are inherently trash. They're really not.

If we want better education, it boils down to improving what we already have, not creating an educational class structure.

I'm against paying for post-secondary, as well, but that is something we can come to when we come to it.

I like the system that's already in place.
I honestly, would have just got my GED at 17 and went straight into the military,But i stayed in and got my diploma because i liked playing football, and i liked socializing with other people in high school.

Yah, private school. I don't think public schools are trash. I think that sometimes the schools are exposed to people who act like trash though. I still think we need to get people the hell out of the education system if they aren't qualified for it. Grade schools in my area, due to the liberals and conservatives reaching a stalemate on what new books to use, just bought more copies of this book from like, 1984 where it is all "Sex is evil and will cause the devil to condemn you" type stuff. Seriously, why do politicians run education like that, eh?

The thing is that your income level doesn't determine if you're qualified for secondary education.

Not that it matters, because most people already aren't qualified. Most people are functionally illiterate. I don't see the issue with trying to teach them. If they're not showing up or whatever, then that is fine.

Private schools are hardly safe from people who just aren't capable, either. The pressure is on for private school teachers to ensure the kids pass, since they're paying their salaries directly. Corruption of this nature actually caused some of my high school teachers to leave that path and work at public high schools. Fancy that.
