Hrm, how I have described it:

The most indepth game I've ever played. A colony of dwarves, and you control pretty much every part of their lives, except when the dwarves ignore you.  Populous + The Sims + poking sticks into ant nests.  Text based graphics, but you can install some less crude graphics.

Most people just don't get it, or can't get past the graphics.

(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

There is a certain kind of mental state required to play DF, its a mixture of genius and psychopath.

Genopath? I don't know what that would actually mean, but it sounds plenty good.

Remember when we were kids and built Lego forts and plastic soldiers?  Well it's like that, except you're playing it drunk and they actually bleed.

I've heard that type of analogy with the GTA series and how kids that just liked to smash their toy cars into each other over and over would enjoy the game as a grown up.

Because this is for describing it WITHOUT THE FANBOY LOVE!

You know, some way that DOESN'T make the person you are talking to roll their eyes and walk away?
