You forgot a detail: Dorfs get webbed in GCS webs and trigger traps. Right now we have some 12 caged dwarves, including you.

Mod out the dwarves' eyes so they don't run away from the carp, who (in theory) won't be able to reach them. Then build a stairs up on the dorfs' side, downward stairs on top of that, floors untill you cross the river, stairs down, stairs up under that, drink booze. (I don't think this solution will win any style points :) )

edit: I didn't know I typed THAT slowly....

NEXT RIDDLE

I'm going to have to judge this tonight or leave it to someone else, I leave tommorow. Anyways...

Your booze is placed four z levels down with pressure plates linked to a support holding the entire top zlevel up(not linked to edges). The other two are dug out entirely. You may not mod speed, however, other mods in the raws are fine. The map is 16x16.

1. Gather plants aboveground.
2. Brew plants into booze.
3. Let dwarfs drink newly brewed booze.
4. Mine out top squares above the booze stockpile.
5. Dig a pit above one of the pressure plates.
6. Throw in dog through pit onto pressure plate.
7. Watch as the ceiling collapses, except for the squares the booze is on.
8. Go and collect your booze.

build a few floor tiles so the thing is conected again, then ignore the preure plates.

1. Cut trees for wood
2. Use wood to make staircase to 4th z-level.
3. Exploratory mine for water and then magma.
4. Use absurdly complex system to pump water and magma to surface.
5. Obsadian-cast a giant 20x20 pillar to support 1st z-level.
6. Send dwarves to booze.
7. Realize you could have just built a brewery and brewed 300 barrels worth of the stuff in the time you did this.
8. ???
9. Profit.

I think I should add "No Brewing, No Trading" to the rules since it ruins the whole purpose of the puzzle.

My solutions:
1) Build an extra support/pillar UNDER the stockpile. Build Staircase. Get Booze without worrying about caveins.

2) Dig shaft. Flood the room with water. Recolt barrels as they float up the shaft. Doesn't work that way in-game :(

Did you just blind those poor dorfs? I can see them falling in the river or colliding into everything already.

I don't know about you guys but I feel more comfortable with the thread in a DF forum. After all it is a DF-related game, that uses DF mechanisms. Its about the same as discuting the game itself - except its a game. All in motion to move it to Community Games?

Step 1. Mod raws to allow blocks to be made out of body parts and bones, also make Elves produce tears on death and mod them as a building material, like ice currently is (more on this later).

Step 2. Defoliate surrounding area of trees to acquire necessary materials for step 3 (and piss of those Elves)

Step 3. With newly gathered wood create giant wooden middle finger at least 15 z-levels high, that points towards nearest Elven settlement. (Further angering those Elves)

Step 4. Kill Elves that besiege the almighty finger and harvest their corpses.

Step 5. Thanks to previously edited raws, create blocks of elf flesh, supports of elf bones, and masterwork blocks of elf tears.

Step 6. Build a floor of elf-flesh blocks that connect the edges of the surrounding surface to z-levels above the booze.

Step 7. Now that it is not in immediate danger of falling, tunnel down to level with the booze and place the elf-bone supports to alleviate the strain of the z-levels above(physics don't work like that now but you made the supports, might as well use them).

Step 8. Build second giant fist with middle finger out of Elf tear blocks (again facing the Elf settlement), making sure to leave a hollow space for booze and enough space for an epic dinning hall.

Step 9. Store booze in Elven Tear Finger.

Step 10. Create tables, chairs, and mugs from masterwork elf-tears.

Step 11. Allow Dwarfs to enjoy booze in epic dinning hall of Elf tears, once again knowing that you have pleased Armok.

Step 12. Take screen shots of Fingers in Stonesense and post them on forums.

Black legion wins. Nothing can possibly top that in my mind.

I won't post my scores, but I did keep a general score, and reccomend that others do when they do riddles. If only as a way to hurt those people who use sissy ways :D

+2 for whoever remembered trap_avoid, by the way.

Though I might just have to attempt making Elf-tear blocks a reality. It could be an ideal way to deal with all the aquifers that pop up in world gen.

pump magma to close off both ends of the river. Channel all around it until it is completely channeled off except one piece. Dig down and dig under all the channels, then the next level dig EVERYTHING gone. Dig off last piece on top z level and watch as the whole river plummets down and kills everything and water splashes everywhere and your computer dies from the lag. Build a bridge and collect the booze after rebooting your computer (If save still exists)
