Oh hey, this thread. If this ever gets off the ground (heh, blimp.) and is somewhere near where I go to college, I'll totally drop by to hang out.

I'd want to join, but I'm worried about my employment prospects in the republic of armed hippistan.
solar would be unlikely

Well, for six months a year, solar power will be useless.  But for the other six months, it wouldn't be that bad.  Yes there's less sun light, but the cold temperature is good for the panels and there won't be much cloud cover.

But possibly Antarctica isn't the best location.  How about a boat?  A giant floating commune of freedom and awesome.  We set sail to where ever there are open horizons and sunny days.  We buy an old container ship or bulk carrier and convert it into a home.  We retrofit it with a massive electrical motor and then run the motor at whatever leisurely pace we get from the suns output, saving us the principle expense of fuel.  Then we rove the mighty seas with our server farm broadcasting to the wide world while beneath the waves our automated machinery whirs away, quietly singing the praises of our techno-utopia to come.  Up above our massive Lan parties and year long science fiction conventions would push the boundaries of geek enlightenment like nothing before.  Finally the revenue from our server farms would allow us to purchase a second mighty vessel and prepare for a LARP so great that the world will weep with sorrow at the years it had wasted up to this point.

This will all come crashing down when it becomes clear that real hard work will be needed to keep the boat running.

Hmm... If we got some hydrogenogenic algae, we could probably get power and water from burning the hydrogen like in a rocket or fuel cell.

I say we have a modern castle with a nearby airstrip and an on-site helipad. The LARP possibilities!

Whoa, whoa, whoa. There's not enough women in the commune for the men, let alone for the women. :P

I'm in.

If America is becoming Nightmare mode, why don't y'all have a look over the pond?

Britain may have all you need.

EDIT: Although I do need a small amount of pot to function.

A plan I can get behind.

I quite like the boat concept.

Does the whole international waters = pretty much everything's legal rule still apply?
