Godville, Online ZPG
« on: May 21, 2010, 11:57:57 am »

Hello guys.

I wanna tell you about the new project, launched not so long ago. It is an online zero player game (weird, huh?) called (Godville).

The game exists since 2007 (the russian version of it; the english one was lauched recently), I discovered it last year. The DevTeam consists only of two people — they're indie developers from the frigid Russia. I was invited by 'em to english version of Godville to help with translation and other stuff.

Here's the concept of the game: you're a god and you have a personal follower. He will pray and sacrifice monsters to thee and do stupid things in your honor (they call 'em "quests"). Prayers and sacrifices will give you power that you may (or may not, if you're lazy) use to encourage the hero or punish him. And that's all, actually, because you can't control the hero — he is adventuring on his own. Hero does all the hard work for you (killing monsters, selling loot, etc). Remember Progress Quest? Well, that's sort of it (some of you may remember the game called Majesty — it was also kinda ZPG). Progress Quest was a parody on Everquest and Godville is a parody on the MMORPG genre itself. there are lots of references to books, movies, memes and other things. It’s not a game in a common sense, cause you don’t really need to play it. You can do anything you want while your follower is doing different things and I think that's awesome.

Here is the screenshot.

The project now is in the state of open beta-test (in other words: there are a lot of things to do, but the game is working). If it doesn't scare you and you're willing to participate in the test — you're welcome!

The screenshot makes it look a little like WTFRPG, which now seems discontinued. I'll check it out, might be fun, even if you did register just to post this here. ;)

I really think we should stop calling "Spam" on someone who's first post is telling us about another game.
Bay12 is known primarily for Dwarf Fortress, as a result I think many people view as acceptive of different game concepts.
Annnnd registering etc. Looks interesting.

It's like a browser based, slightly more interactive Progress Quest.

Behold, my mighty level 2 hero Tarquin Shitbags. Slayer of spider pigs, hippie scalps and religiously discriminating gangs.

He also has an order form for sexual harassment apparently, not sure where he got that yet.

Mine's Unicron. The hero is Optimus Prime. Should've probably been Galvatron. :P

This is very interesting...

Would like it more if you could have thousands of followers and it was heavily based on luck. But that's just me  ;D

EDIT: It seems my guy won't do his quest, sell 10 doughnut holes at black market, does he need to be at a town first?

I think they just do it over time or something. Mine is meant to be "Helping Lao Tzu fan to achieve Dao". There's a bar underneath, that might be progress.
