Supernatural Mafia - Discussion

Since no one ever did much with the Supernatural Mafia idea, I'm starting a discussion thread on it. Mostly because I have a bunch of ideas floating around in my head and I want to get them out.


Prior information has been Redacted. I will put up the common town information once I have it ready.

Yeah, I'm not much for the crazy amount of scumteams, but other than that it looks pretty good. Nothing too out of the ordinary.

Though for fun, it looks like it's going to need a lot of players...

I think it would be fun, but it seems that your doppo game already has the bases covered as far as inventive and fun roles go. I wonder if there is much point because anything that can go into this game can be made into the doppo game.

Well, actually the impetus for this game is that Paranormal got a bit too crazy with the number of roles and whatnot a while back. So we scaled it back a bit to get it under control and manageable. So I've wanted to do something with a bunch of these ideas for a while now that I'm not going to do with Paranormal.

Both are crazy role-heavy games, though.

I like it.  Paranormal is solid, but I think it'd be nice to have something to shake everything up a bit.

I know you originally wanted Paranormal to be a lot larger than just "Dopps and Aliens"

I think you could take the best elements of both and merge the two, if you wanted. Cut the Mad Scientists, but keep the Aliens. Simplify everything, cut a bunch of the town's roles (emphasis is on the scum, not the town), polish, polish, polish, playtest, polish, polish, polish, (do you see a trend here) polish, and, finally, add in a game-breaker town role at the last second.

Or you could keep the two completely seperate, keeping Paranormal as Modern and Supernatural as Fantasy and everything that entails. For instance, Paranormal players get technology while Supernatural gets magic and what not. But then you need something very specific to define the two as seperate from each other. Paranormal has a lot of techs and choices you make at the beginning of the game while Supernatural seems to have a lot of conversions. Expand on interesting themes that the two have.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Maybe the Monster Hunter has to kill a certain amount of Monsters as his Win Condition?

Make most of town really strong heroes with lots of weak "mafia" make sure that town outnumber any one mafia and let them duke it out?

Needs a large town I think and more than one lynch (like in vote mafia).
