So, were their names made entirely of G T A and C?  Because otherwise, you'd be pretty hard pressed to write anything except references to obtuse sci-fi movies.

Interestingly, a Gattaca gene would be really appropriate.

You'd have to invent a code.  And if you're going to "write" stuff in a four-letter code you made up yourself, in a medium measured with electron microscopes, you can claim you wrote pretty much anything, and it's not anyone will call you on it for a while.

I suppose they'll have to come up with a standardized way of writing stuff in genes if this is going to be an ongoing business practice.  Maybe they can make the genes induce writing on the surface, so you can grow cows with barcodes.

Gene tattoos.  I want a poorly-drawn picture of a dead friend encoded into my genes.

the GTAC sequences are in groups of 3 for 4 ^ 3  = 64 different combinations per DNA character, just makes sure any credits or legal preambles transcribed in DNA don't get activated or you'll end up with some horridly complex protein chain that could be anything from silk to neurotoxin.

Both would be awesome.

Why not both. As the same thing.

I think the one thing that makes it hilarious is the fact that it has human chompers.

The Mist.  There are spiders (Like the happy li'l guy pictured above) that can spray projectile streams of silk that, while technically not neurotoxin, cause severe burning and tissue damage.  Enough to actually kill one guy who gets a strand wrapped around his leg.

But... but... that would cauterize it! No death by bleeding, and unless he has vital organs in his leg, losing it won't be all that deadly!

Shock? Heart attack from shock?

It's not that farfetched.

Actually, I think the guy that got killed had it around his neck. Or maybe that was just in the book.

In the movie there were two guys.  One got it around his neck, the other (The brother of the guy who got burned) got it wrapped around his leg.  It started digging in and hissing and he presumably died from shock.
