That's a discussion that should go in the thread about copyright law.

God has a copyright on your cells. Stop jacking his IP.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

We'll challenge him for rights. Something tells me he won't show up.

Unless you believe in the god is the sum energy and matter of the universe thing. In which case he is your challenge, the rights and the law itself.

Awesome.

Take that, God! *middle finger* It took you billions of years!
Or 24 hours, ish.  Unless you believe so strongly in evolution that you automatically read it into the Bible and see Darwin's face in your spaghetti.

Mmm spaghetti...
No, the flying spaghetti monster is in the pasta. Darwin is on the toast.

Granted it took us billions of years to evolve to this point to develop this.

How? And I do know that this stuff is cool, I just object to the whole "Hey, we did something that some people think is sacred. Let us mock them!" bit. I can understand not agreeing with them and still going on when they accuse this of being a mockery of something they believe in, but open mockery alongside this is just bad form.

It's not like people's religions are the worst thing that has been mocked around here...

and frankly, I dont see what the fuss is about. Creating life in a lab was just a matter of developing the right technique. Craig Venter has done it. Good for him, and for us insofar it benefits us. But I dont think it has any thelogical-philosophical implications, one way or the other, unless it is shoehorned into already existing ones.

I think we are safe legally. God isn't a resident of the world, so he likely has very little legal power.

God made the world however, by legal right he can claim copyright should he choose to.  But, he doesn't have any use for money (and could probably create any amount he wants while somehow rebalancing all the economies of the world to accomidate for inflation), and since he's all knowing, he probably saw this coming anyway.

I have no theological complaints about making artificial life.  I just have to remember to be smug when all the artificial life we make mutates into the deadliest disease imaginable.  Tee hee.

You see, THIS stuff I'm cool with. Just joking around with the stuff presented to us without any overt mocking.

What's best is they put their own names + select quotes into the chemical DNA code of it.

So, were their names made entirely of G T A and C?  Because otherwise, you'd be pretty hard pressed to write anything except references to obtuse sci-fi movies.
