Graal

Simple little MMO. Was wondering if anyone played it. Ive logged a few thousand hours into it, and was part of the staff on the Zodiac server, not that anyone who who hasn't played Graal knows what that is, but eh. I have a very old account, with a subscription plan that you cant even get any more (Unlimited). Game has a handful of distinctively different servers. A space-shooter mmorpg, a classic swords n magic mmorpg, a modern day shooter mmorpg, some rp servers, etc.

www.graalonline.com

Website is pure shit. Doesn't convey a thing about the actual game. Its all about the community.

Oh hey, sweet!  I remember back when it was a Zelda ripoff.  Those were the fuckin' good old days.  And there were some user-made areas that were totally awful except for the humor value, like a monster that was mutated by 'sulfur and radition, a deadly combination' [sic].

I MISS that game.

I think I heard it was originally (or planned to be) called Zelda Online, for obvious reasons :)

Graal isnt going anywhere. Playerbase is edging towards a cliff, but thats about it. Still get a good 100 players on the top servers.

Holy shit.  GRAAL?  Really, GRAAL?  Jesus, I remember playing this like ten years ago, during the "Zelda Online" days.  One of my friends made some scripting mods so it played more like Diablo, and we were making our own server and stuff.  It was cool, but I remember ganking and hacking being a huge problem.  I had no idea it was still around.

I was going to prove my cred by naming whatever ancient version I still had kicking around on my harddrive, but I apparently deleted it in haste during my last format.  Fuck.

Graals up and running. A lot different then when you played. Hacking isn't a problem, at all. You'll probably get banned in minutes, due to the almost unbelievable amount of staff-player interaction (Which I would know about, being part of the Player Relations team). As far as ganking... Cant really say anything about that. You dont use the term "gank" in graal now days. It just doesn't happen, there's not much serious pvp gameplay outside of Zodiac and Zone. Getting ganked in Classic/NPulse? Press pause.

Probably worth it to check it out. Not the site. Dont even look at the background of the site. Or the little pictures. Nasty things, those are.

A blast from the past, I too remember it from years back. I didn't play a great deal though and the last thing I do remember was user protests but I can't remember what for.

I remember my cousin played this when it was basically free Zelda Online. I tried to play a little, but I couldn't see what you'd do ... like, after you get Armor-3 and Sword-4, and all the little gizmos, etc. So I never played much. But he did some building and such.

EDIT: I can't see myself paying a dime for it, of course. But maybe that's just me.

This. Also, isn't it ridiculously expensive even for an MMO?

I remember the F2P "rebellions" and playing on the Babylon server because that allowed you to save cash / appearance inbetweenlog ins. The game would've survive far better if they'd just stuck ads in game instead of this crap.

So, how dead is it, exactly?

Watched a friend play countless of times.

Even been considering playing Graal Kingdoms (polished up RPG version with pay2play).
Then decided it was a waste of time and money.

How dead... Completely depends on your server. Most servers are barren wastelands (Except when a group decides to RP), but on the major servers (Usually all the ones where you can get cash of some kind, and/or level up) you have a good 80-100 players mid-day.

As for the price... Dont buy Graal. Its not worth it, its price is so fucked up its not worth it. After Unlimited subscription was canceled, it became a huge waste of money. But, its fun on freeplay, I suppose.

Jesus Tittyfuckin Christ. Graal? I remember playing this the summer after EIGHTH GRADE. Which was SUMMER OF 2001. Which was NINE YEARS AGO. How the hell does it still exist?

I remember a bunch of little sprites running around, and to customize your looks you had to do some complicated-ass stuff with entering code and whatnot, and that's really all I remember about it. You could get some sword upgrades, and it was mad buggy. That's all I can remember.

I remember seeing everyone running around on mounts. Then I realized both sprites had a name floater, which made me think the "top" player had somehow convinced the other one to let him ride around up there.

Or forced him D:
