Wait. Isn't it the Efreet that casts Wish(at your command)? Wouldn't they be taking an EXP hit?

It would, save for that its Wishgranting is a Spell-like ability instead of an actual spell.

Except that Efreet's don't have EXP to spend.

So in essence their Wish spell would fail.

Though few DMs actually follow the rules for wishes.

To expand on Panda's explanation, Spell Like abilities have no material, verbal, or somnantic components, and no xp costs or focuses either. There is cheese to get any spell or ability as a spell like. That means you can get any spell free.

Irrelevant. It's a spell-like ability, thus that EXP cost does not exist.

Listen, I said it was HORRIBLE cheesy cheese. The only thing more cheesy is Pun Pun brand cheddar. Kobold becomes a god at level 4 I think they got it down to? The only good thing about Pun Pun brand cheddar is that it requires serious rules knowledge about what can and can't be done. Candle of Invocations are a bit simpler.

Honestly, does anyone ever actually do these stupid things or do people just perpetually wank about them on the WotC forums?

If by "wank about them" you mean "notice a loophole in the rules on some idle Tuesday when going over the campaign notes from last week," then yeah, sure. Of course nobody actually tries this crap in a real game! It's just amusing to discover where an otherwise finely-crafted game system has a crack in it, and subsequently figure out something cool that you could do with that crack were it a hard-written law of reality. This is ROLEPLAYING, after all. If you could pull crazy crap like this in Real Life, PEOPLE WOULD DO IT. Somebody once figured out if you get a certain metal really hot, it melts on an imperceptible level and produces more energy than anyone knows what to do with. In a game, this would be cheesy. In reality, this is done every day around the world.

Guys, let's stay on topic. The topic is supplying an army by extracting small bits of iron from sand.

I would like to point towards this link: http://nuklearpedia.com/doku.php?id=twinkin_out_25_pixelated_eyes_nonexistant_mouths
Which is a copy of one of red mage's columns from 8-bit theatre, specifically the first question/response:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
There's some other great examples of ridiculous rule bending in the rm articles.

(Off topic FTW!)

That's actually a fairly basic method for making monks effective. They look REALLY good on paper, but the abilities just don't work out as well as they should. I think the best monk I've seen was one who used Leap Attack to hit every foe in a 120 ft line with a full attack.
