"Wanahanhananaha!"
"Skronk!"
"For the everlasting glory of Armok and the Dwarven Empire!"
"Wibble."

Those are my suggestions, anyway.

Argonnek's Journal:  11th Obsidian, 1051

Doompotato is getting better but the battlecry needs work.

Let me summarize the events of the last few days.

Ingiz breached the second cavern.  As he did with the first, he looked around for a bit, then designated a wall to seal off the cavern until we decide what to do down there.

We've been doing a lot of work on the tower.  Hauling stone, building walls, so was it any wonder that we didn't build Ingiz's wall right away?  And rats.  We've had a lot of them.  The ferrets keep the population down.  So when Doompotato screamed about a rat in the food stockpiles, I thought he was being elvish.  "Well then kill it!" I yelled back down at him.

Doompotato was supposed to be hauling stone, and surely killing a rat couldn't take a whole day let alone two.  So I went to investigate.  Didn't see much until Doompotato knocked me over running up the stairs, copper battleaxe in hand.  He screamed, "I need a battlecry but am currently working on it!" as he charged over me and into the refuse area.  I thought he had lost his mind, the poor thing.  Then the scream.  More a squeek than a scream, but it made blood run cold.  Doompotato was sent sprawling through the air, and from the refuse pit stepped a large rat.  Nay, not large.  This rat was gigantic.  And he had bruises all over.  Looked like marks from a training axe.  Doompotato had knocked out its right upper incisor, and it was furious.  Doompotato lay there in a daze.  I cheered him on. "You can do it champ!  Get up and get him."  He staggered to his feet.  "Wanahanhananaha!" he cried, charging back in and taking out another tooth.  These battlecries were getting embarassing.  The rat turned to run away, pausing to eat one of the potatoes set aside for making vodka.  "For the potatoes!" This battle cry was a little better.  The results were cetainly more effective.  Doompotato grabbed the fleeing rat's tail, then chopped the rat's upper body off with his axe.

Doompotato sat there with a shocked look on his face.  "What are you sitting there for?  Back to the training dummy!"  I told him. Then, "Just kidding, lets go get a beer."

Events of late Obsidian, 1051

Burnt leaned against the wall, resting from a long day's work chopping wood.  Suddenly children's screams brought him wide awake.  The skeletons....they must be back.  But it was a kobold thief.  Screaming, "For glory and the empire!" Burnt hit the kobold with the training axe.  The kobold exploded against a tree.  "Another notch on my axe." Burnt said as he went back to rest some more.

"Doesn't count.  The tree killed it, not you."  Ramcolukes said cheerfully.

And he was right.  Apparantly it hadn't counted.

As he leaned back against the stone wall, he could hear more activity on the far side.  What could the cultist dwarves be doing over there?

And there they were.  Skeletal crows.  In the distance still, but coming in quickly.

"Everyone underground! Crows are back!" Niel yelled.

Good, he wasn't the only one paying attention around here.  "Niel, cover the entrance. I'm going after them."  He dropped his training axe.  Where was his iron war hammer?  Oh well, time to use the fists.

The crows were close.  He grabbed two of them as they got near, punching them repeatedly in their heads and bodies.  Screams and other sounds of battle.  Niel must have engaged the crows.

When he was finished with his two, he looked to the entrance to see if Niel needed help.  But Niel wasn't fighting.  The crows weren't there.

"They flew over the wall." Niel explained.

...........................

The masons scattered.  Doompotato and Argonnek were activated, Ingiz being to far away.  Crows, a lot of them, came over the wall.

Argonnek looked at Doompotato, "Cut them down, son of the earth!" And they charged.

When the crows were dead, bones and stone were scattered everywhere.

...........................

Burnt looked to where Niel was pointing.  Something at the edge of the lake.  A body.

They hurried over, and drug the dwarf out of the water.  "He's still alive, but unconscious.  Lets get him below." Niel said.

...........................

Everyone was gathering in the dining hall.  Hazey Jane congratulated the victorious warriors.  Then she noticed someone was missing. "Hey, where is Therlith Thimshur?"

............................
Therlith (the green dwarf)

He got attacked by crows and dodged into the lake.  The closest up ramp would have put him still inside the fort, but the crow followed him, pecking him repeatedly in the head while Therlith was running away.  The crow left, he hadn't drown yet, and came up on shore outside the tower.

1st Granite, 1052

"We must not let the elvish spy escape! He'll lead them and their damn clergy right to us!" Argonnek slammed his copper axe to the ground.  "We're giving him the time he needs to get away."

Ingiz replied, "We can't just tear down the wall.  That would let everyone in."

"I don't think he's a spy." said Hazey Jane.

Grue McGee added, "He might not be, but even if he is, he's not going anywhere anytime soon.  He was terrified of the undead, remember.  He'll wait for an armed caravan to slip away with."

"Well then, I have a plan." Deon started sketching images on the wall. "We can construct a system to only let the dwarves in that we want to let in."

Everyone nodded in approval, except Doompotato.  He nudged Grue McGee with his elbow and muttered, "Or kick dwarves out."

Grue nodded.

...............................

3rd Granite, 1052

Lily sat by the bed, spooning some soup into the unconscios dwarf's mouth.

He coughed, then his eyes opened. "Where am I?  What happened?" he said as he glanced around the room.  "Who are you?"

"Mommy!  The strange man is awake."

Denise and Niel came in the room.  "Lily, go play with your brother."  Lily bounded out of the room.

Therlith Thimshur repeated, "Where am I?"

"You are outside of your compound.  There was a fight.  We don't know what happened.  You washed up on the shore."

"How long.  I feel so weak."

"A week.  Her daughter has been taking care of you." Niel replied.

Ramcolukes ran into the room. "The dead elephants are coming back.  The man in the graveyard told me to tell you."

Therlith sat up immediately. "Undead elephants!  I've got to get back inside the walls."  He jumped out of bed and staggered toward the entrance.  He paused for a moment to take a drink out of a barrel.  "Yech!  Water. Are you trying to kill me?"

Denise answered, "We don't have enough food to spare any plants for brewing."  But he was already on the surface.  She turned to Ramcolukes, "Now what is this nonsense about elephants?  And where is your sister?"

Burnt yelled down from above, "Niel! Get your sorry hide up here.  Four undead elephants are approaching from the south!"

..................................

7th Granite, 1052

Burnt turned to Niel.  "We need to discuss strategy before we go after them.  Now I..."

Denise yelled, "Lily! One of them has Lily cornered!"

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Niel jumped up. "Charge!" he yelled as he started to run into battle.

Burnt grabbed him by his shirt and held him.  "Niel.  You are going to distract the elephant.  Make it run after you instead of the girl.  Do not engage!  You have no weapons, no armor.  If you get the girl killed and survive yourself, I'll let her mother use my war hammer on you."

"Agreed...Charge!"

Burnt still held him.  "Then I want you to lose the elephant.  We are in no condition to take on this many of the creatures." He let Niel go.

Denise asked, "What are you going to be doing?"

"Making sure the other three don't ge any closer."

....................................

"What is he doing?" asked Hazey Jane. "Why is he building wooden floors?"

"I think he is trying to get back inside." replied Deon.  "We'll have to work faster.  If he can get in right now, so can anyone else."

....................................

15th Granite, 1052

"Stop the floors! Don't reach the far bank!" Grue McGee yelled at Deon and Argonnek.

Deon replied, "We have to finish if we want to keep people out."

Argonnek looked at the far bank. "Grue is right.  Look, spiders.  Big ones too."

Do spiders inject venom? That would be cool.

I think they are supposed to, but I think with the material strength issues, their teeth were the same strength as skin.  I guess we will find out eventually.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this fort any more. Migrants arrive, they die for some reason, the fort is flooded for another reason, then dwarves go mad, more dwarves die and I'm just laughing in my distress.
