I also don't like to game the mechanics too much. I build supports for everything even though they don't actually need supports. Everyone gets at least a 3x3 room, preferably with multiple sub-rooms within their space, such as a separate bedroom from the main room of their apartment.

Even the spearcatchers get their own 3x3 room to themselves!

If the dwarf is important he gets a nice apartment. If he's important and I like him, he even gets customized floors and furniture.

Storage rooms are still very large open rooms, but there are columns around the room. I really should put more effort into my storage rooms though.
