Speaking of swamp cooling--

to reduce the humidity in the air and give a cool breeze, I free 2 liter bottles of water and put them in a tray, and have a fan blow over them.  It works pretty well.  You get the cold air from the ice and then water (humidity) condenses on the bottles and drips into the tray.  It doesn't take up much more space than the fan.

but where does the refrigerator heat empty to?

The refrigerator heat empties into a different room!  The kitchen!  Which I am not in when playing dwarf fortress, so it works well.

True. And it sounds like there is AC in the house, just not in his room, so perhaps the fridge heat is countered by that.

You do definitely need to be able to open your window though dude, that's just crazy.
