Pretty sure the enemy will die from being hacked to pieces long before feeling any effect of lead poisoning, whereas the wielder will be continually absorbing small amounts (if it doesn't have a handle of a different material) as they build up to toxic amounts and he succumbs to the symptoms.

He won't ever succumb. continually absorbing it will build up quite a resistance.

Got a source on that?  According to wikipedia:

No safe threshold for lead exposure has been discovered—that is, there is no known amount of lead that is too small to cause the body harm.

Symptoms usually develop over weeks to months as lead builds up in the body during a chronic exposure, but acute symptoms from brief, intense exposures also occur.

DF breaks loads of biology already :-p  Including this, since, afaik, it doesn't model lead poisoning.  Although, once syndroms can include contact poisoning, this would be quite feasible.

Edit:  Actually, contact is one of the more difficult methods of transmitting lead poisoning.  On the other hand, you could, right now, creating a custom material that auto-boils, generate it when you smelt lead, and have it cause lead poisoning.

No, wait, straight smelting is hard coded, and so are the reactions to make items.  You could remove the metal ore tag from lead ores, and add a specific reaction for smelting them to the smlter though; then have lead-poisoning-gas occasionally produced from the reaction.

anyway, this game is odd, like how a little support can hold up a MOUNTAIN. The mountain is made of GOLD. in the gold are veins of ROSE GOLD. underneath the mountain, there is a RIVER, with CARP.

Rose gold is an alloy, there are no veins of it

Anywho. Nobody here cares about lead poisoning, dorfs are born with it after all. Ever since I began playing I thought dwarven blood was 30% molten lead, 60% pure alcohol, 6% water, 4% (unknown substance).
