Miss USA contest affirmative action for terrorists?
« on: May 18, 2010, 05:47:54 pm »

File this under "Things that made you facepalm today". So, the annual Miss USA pageant was held the other day (note, not even the Miss America pageant...this is Donald Trump's rival pageant) and the winner was Rima Fakih, a Lebanese-American from Michigan.

Mildly interesting, and maybe the first Arab-American pageant winner. Nobody's really kept track. End of story, right?

Wrong. Cue the retards.

Quote
Daniel Pipes, who publishes a right-leaning blog on Middle Eastern affairs, pointed to a "surprising frequency of Muslims winning beauty pageants." While allowing that "they are all attractive" — Pipes, a former board member of the U.S. Institute for Peace, posted pictures of several — he said that their victories "make me suspect an odd form of affirmative action."

Quote
"Miss Hezbollah is now Miss USA," declared conservative radio talk show host Debbie Schlussel, saying that Fakih's relatives in Lebanon had ties to the terrorist organization based there. Schlussel also said Fakih received some financial backing from onetime Hezbollah supporter Imad Hamad — or, as Schlussel put it, Fakih's "bid for the pageant was financed by an Islamic terrorist." Suggesting the pageant was "rigged," Schlussel wrote off Fakih's victory to a "politically correct, Islamo-pandering climate."

Quote
Conservative blogger Michelle Malkin saw a conspiracy afoot, too — generic rather than Muslim-specific this time. Malkin mocked Fakih as a "gaffetastic" contestant who tripped over her gown as well as over her answer to a question about birth control — exposing Fakih's ignorance, Malkin argued, about what constitutes a "controlled substance" and what the purpose of health care is. "Looks like the Miss USA pageant didn't want to risk the wrath of the open-borders mob," Malkin said.

I don't even have any comments to add. I'm just so sick and tired of these f**king douchebags (especially Malkin).

Don't let stupid people get to you.

Laugh!

At them!

Until they start to teach that stuff in schools. Then you know it'll impact you in 15 years when those clods graduate with morality disorders and complete logic failures.

Okay, somewhat reasonable. Nothing really accusatory, either. Might be chasing after nothing, but hey, it's fine to notice a trend.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with bjlong. The first one's probably paranoid nonsense, but not necessarily.

The second two...

Yeah, winners of beauty contests should always have perfect knowledge of all political issues.  I mean, that's their job, right?

Ooh, now that I think about it, that was actually an issue once. Some beauty pageant contestant was asked a question about gay marriage, and said it shouldn't be allowed, and the judge straight-up said that was the wrong answer and had cost her the crown.

This was a fair time ago, so I don't know if anything came of it, but I did find it odd that Miss America or what have you was apparently a political thing. And I mean, the judge sounded shocked about it too, so apparently it was in the same bin as "Do you like freedom?" or "Should we have world peace?"

Miss USA has always been about politics. The winner goes around and shares her political views on people for the next year, until the next Miss America wins. She either be in the same vein as the judges, or so vapid it doesn't matter.

What, really?

So the judges make a mrs universe that thinks like them.

Then miss universe runs around acting like the whole world is about her?

I like Michelle Malkin. She's a complete tard who manages to be obnoxious and loud at the same time.

That said: Yes. Those women were hot.

It's a pageant, though, isn't it? As much as I dislike the principle, that's kinda the point.

My mom won the Yukon Sourdough in '93. I remember being young and seeing her walking around the yard while my family members took pictures of her wearing some period piece. I was all "wtf 1920s".
