I honestly wouldn't know more than you would, so I'll ask the obvious.

Are you two going for a meaning, something that sounds bland, something uncommon, or cool-sounding? It's making me wonder if I'd even change my last name (as a male) if the option were presented.

Edit: And Emily has me play DF on the bigscreen tv so she can watch, so I think I'm safe in my choice overall ;)

Since Gaelic would be Ireland mainly, so you probably do have at least one Landreth somewhere.

Like many in the US, I have ancestors from all over Europe. My dad was adopted, so I don't really know about that side, but I know that my ancestors on my moms side were from various places in Europe, don't really remember where, so its just a big mix.

Meaning would be really nice but I was just looking for something that sounded good with everyone's names.

Possibly but I meant that I don't come from a long line of Landreths, my dad's last name was originally Machado before his mother remarried.

Go for something cool that will make your children proud.

Fightmaster. Asskicker. Helsing. Dracula.

Don't listen to him he is perpetually sour.

I rather like Fightmaster. Kids better be tough though. I can imagine the school bully smacking this little girl and she grinds him into the curb. He's all telling his abusive dad about it. Dad asks what her name was.

"Tetra Fightmaster"
"Did you know her name was Fightmaster before you got into it?"
"Uh ... yeah"

My mother hyphenated her maiden name and my dad's name, seems to have worked out, although that does mean she technically has a different last name.  Just for laughs, I'll put the name:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Landreth-Metzger has a nice ring to it I say.  People could even shorten it to "L&M," which will have
Spoiler: interesting results (click to show/hide)
and would be less of a hassle for descendants who are trying to figure out your family tree.  Mmm, baking chocolate...

I'd go for 'Langer' if it was me, but that does discard a lot of the original names. It's apparently a German surname meaning 'a tall man.' Fitting if you're tall yourself, I guess.

Landreth+Letzger= Llaentdzegethr when alternating letters. Now, we remove some consonants.
