Update: September 24
We had a good run, but the game is pretty much over on this server. We put up a good fight, but eventually lost. The galaxy we chose to colonize was settled by the number one guild on the entire server. They were spread out over three galaxies, while we were concentrated in one...so we actually outnumbered them locally for the first month or so, but once they realized we were a threat they moved in and did enough damage that people got demoralized and started leaving the game.

Some people have asked about starting a new guild on the next server that opens up. That may happen, but the next server hasn't been announced yet, so I'm not making any plans yet.

Feel free to post, ask questions, etc. But the battle on Ixion is over. If you want to join, I recommend thinking of Ixion as a training ground, and joining for real when the next server opens.

Current count is twenty five players in the guild. It's an active group, half the guild is experienced players.

Hello everyone. On Saturday May 22, astroempires will be opening a new server: Ixion.

Our Helion guild, Across is about 50% b12ers, and we'll be moving to the new server when it opens.

We'd like to invite the rest of you to join in to play with us. We've been a significant force in our galaxy despite entering the game several months late, and starting fresh on a new server we expect to dominate our galaxy of choice.


About AE:
Astroempires is a browser based space conquest game. No download is neccesary. Membership is free, though there is an optional $27/yr account upgrade which gives some useful perks.

Events like fleet movements, construction and research take real time, similar to skill gain in Eve Online, so unlike traditional MMORPGs, AE won't consume your entire life. Ten minutes a day to queue up construction and research, combined with a few hours at a time when you want to engage in combat.

The pvp dynamic in the game allows for fleets to be destroyed and recycled, but established player bases can only be occupied to siphon economy, and not completely destroyed. Thus, nobody needs to worry about being permanently removed from the game.



Our guild on Ixion: What you need to know
The Ixion server will go live on Saturday March 22. It won't be possible to register until that time. However, if you'd like to "try out" AE to see if you like it, you can join the Helion Server. Our guild page is here if you'd like to join and meet those of us already playing.

We have not yet decided which galaxy we will start in, but tentatively Galaxy #8 is the most likely. Intergalactic travel is non-trivial, so when you join the new server, it is crucial that we all start in the same galaxy. I will update this post when we've decided for certain which galaxy we'll be starting in.

Two guild names have been proposed for our new guild on Ixion: "Across" (the same as our Helion guild, and a reference to Excel Saga) and "Red Dwarf" (a reference to the British comedy sitcom and very appropriate since most our members are b12ers.)


Trying it out
If you'd like to try out AE to see if you like it, you can join the Helion Server now and get a head start on learning the game for when the new server opens. On Helion, we're in Galaxy 36, and our guild page is here if you'd like to join and meet those of us already playing.

And Red Dwarf takes place on a spaceship. In space. It's totally appropriate. Plus it's just a little bit crazy. Armok would approve.

Incidentally, I just noticed there's another thread advertising for Delta server. Delta is two and a half years old. You don't really want to be fighting people who've been sitting around building up fleets for all that time. If you're going to play...join us on the new server.

Cool. Great to have you. I just sent you a message in-game. As for being a newbie, don't worry about it. We have several experienced players and I've written a lengthy quickstart guide that will cut weeks off your early development.

We all learned things the hard way on Helion, and now that we're starting fresh on Ixion we'd like to hit the ground running and totally dominate a galaxy. We joined Helion three months late, so we were pretty heavily outnumbered but even so there were much larger guilds that said about us "Don't mess with them. They're evil."

We're so going to do that again, but faster. And from the looks of it we're going to be about half again larger than we were on Helion.

It's going to be great.

Update:

Server goes live tomorrow. We will be playing in galaxy #8. Please start your account in galaxy #8.

It will be a day or two before we're high enough to to form a guild. In the meantime, we have a mailing list that we've been using to stay in contact with each other. Traffic has averaged about 2 messages a day, but I anticipate it will be higher for the next few weeks on the new server.

The way I read it was 17:00 server time, which would be ten hours from now, so 11:00AM EST, if I'm not mistaken.

In other news, if anyone still isn't on the mailling list, please let me know. It will be the easiest way for us to communicate until we're able to create a guild. Only about 2/3 of us are B12ers, and we'll all benefit from sharing referral links so as many of us as possible can get referral bonuses.
