How much time would I need to dedicate to this each day? Considering jumping in with you guys, but I wouldn't be able to spend a great deal of time with it.

As multi-player games go, it's a fairly casual game. Like I said in the original post:

"Events like fleet movements, construction and research take real time, similar to skill gain in Eve Online, so unlike traditional MMORPGs, AE won't consume your entire life. Ten minutes a day to queue up construction and research, combined with a few hours at a time when you want to engage in combat."

If you play more often, you'll benefit from it, but unlike WoW, there comes a point where this isn't anything more to do until your queues clear up. For example if you send a fleet into motion, it may take hours for it to arrive, so it's not like you have to sit there and babysit it all that time.

AE is mostly played in spurts of five or ten minutes at a time, not multi-hour long sessions all at once.

Note that Galaxy #8 has not streamed yet. There's a thread monitoring it here.

Will probably be another 10 minutes.

Also, here are some referral links:

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

Alright, I'm in as SeaBee. Sent a guild-join request to Red Dwarf and used the referral link of LordBucket to register.

Edit: No idea what to build first. Going with my gut and building energy stuff and mining stuff for now.

I would advise focusing heavily on economy buildings: metal refineries, spaceports and shipyards. If you build one research lab and research computer tech to two, that will open up access to robotic factories too.

Also...seven people in the chat room right now who'd be happy to answer questions, so feel free to drop by.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.
