I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a complete symbol key for the world map view of this graphics pack?

I've only seen one thread about it and it was VERY incomplete.

This graphics pack is the best ever, by the way. Smooth and retro at the same time. Kudos!

engraving my stone makes the game look crazy!

smoothing stone makes sense, the items become one simple looking symbol.

but when I go to engrave it, the resulting symbol can be ANYTHING.  It makes it very very very difficult to figure out what the heck I'm looking at when I engrave an entire z-level.

Any way to fix this?  when I engrave, I only really want to view the description of the item, not to be blasted with a bunch of random looking symbols that represent an engraved tile.

Either go into your init files and set the engravings start obscured setting to yes, or use the d, v command to hide them in game.

Sorry but I do not have a complete symbol key for the world map.

The world map is mostly hardcoded to use specific tiles in the tileset, tiles that are often shared with many other hardcoded and softcoded uses.

I don't even have a full list of all the hardcoded tiles in DF.
I have to discover new hardcoded tile uses by playing the game myself.

ex. tetrahedrite = tetr he d it

and its for just about everything, is there any way to fix this?


Also does it have to do with the fact of how many items there are on the map? because i have noticed after i get most of my industry up and running is when the letters start to dissapear. not before

Known TTF bug, has nothing to do with graphic sets. Either switch off True Type (with F12), or scroll in and out with your mousewheel, that "resets" the bug and it's alright for a while again.

So I've encountered an annoying problem--random characters aren't drawing properly, so I end up with things like "i  n sho t s ord."
Missing characters everywhere.  Anyone know what causes this?  Not sure its directly related to this specific tileset or just a general issue.

F10 redraws the screen if you want a single key solution.

Those indicate available Combat and Hunting reports, which you can access by pressing "r".

This is not specific to any tileset; it's just part of DF :)
