What exactly is the problem with enabling TrueType?
I seem to get much better readable text while seemingly nothing wrong in the world?
You can force TrueType font by changing a line in "init.txt" from "[TRUETYPE:17]" to "[TRUETYPE:YES]" (always enabled) or "[TRUETYPE:16]" (enabled by default, but disabled while you're zoomed out.)
If something is unstable and can cause significant problems, I prefer to disable it by default.
I've had reports of problems and personal experiences of problems, so I decided to disable it.

It sometimes leaves some garbage on the screen, truetype is greying out the selected line in some lists, and truetype text was sometimes overlapping other content/text.

With this version of the pack the combat text and other text options overlap each other, what do I do about that?

Also have an issue with the text not having a background but as I read in the OP it doesn't by default? any way I can get that back as it was a blessing on my eyes.

You can't have text background with TrueType font.
If you're not using TT (the tileset default config is not using TT by default), you can enable the tileset text background by either using the tileset assembler or switching to the pre-assembled "Phoebus_16x16_TextBackground.png" that I've made just for this purpose.
You can switch tileset either by copying your desired tileset over the default "Phoebus_16x16.png", or by going in "init.txt" and changing all 4 references from "Phoebus_16x16.png" to your desired tileset, ie: "Phoebus_16x16_TextBackground.png".

Are you working on a version vor 34.02?
Or can you tell me in 2-3 sentences what I need to do to use 0.34.01v03 in the new version (no savegames yet) is it only the RAW folder I need to copy? Or should I copy the whole 34.02 client into the 0.34.01 folder to overwrite all the game stuff?
Of course I could just try. But I want to also avoid any problems which might occur long term.

I am now, thanks for the heads up.

Edit.: Now that there's a TrueType Font toggle (F12), I'm going to enable it by default (as it's generaly better) and you'll be able to disable it when it causes problems.

Updated to 0.34.02
TrueType font is now re-enabled by default. There's now a toggle hotkey (F12) that allows you to switch between tileset and truetype ingame, so you can switch if you are having problems with the truetype font.

As F12 works in this version I am pretty sure it's a misprint :D

Forgot to update the version number (feels like I didn't had to do that in years), but it's .02.

Was able to generate the error, it only starts after updating the savegame.

When I copy over the original save file object raws it works fine again.(Or at least, I can load the game with no error)
