[snip...]
Once the TrueType implementation covers all text in the game, I will free the text characters and replace them with graphics, this will be particularly useful for symbols that hard-coded to use a text tile, like water levels (0-7), X for bins & crosshairs, I for supports, n and v? for hills and valleys on the world map and minimap, etc.

As far as i am aware, support pillars already have their own tile, not linked to 'I'. This was implemented recently.

The linux preinstalled version is corrupted.

It works, it just has a typo in the file extension (tar.bz instead of tar.gz)

bz2 usually gives better compression than gz, especially for text (like all the conf files in DF).

Goddamn you, Phobeus! You and Ironhand both make FANTASTIC tilesets, and I find myself constantly switching between you when you release a new version xD

I do like Ironhands set for the slightly "fuzzy" look of everything. Doesn't feel so sharp on the eyes. But yours is much more practical with the stone and metal icons.

The archive is definitely compressed with gzip, it starts with the bytes 1f 8b. Nobody uses bzip, it violated a software patent for arithmetic coding and was very quickly replaced by bzip2 which used huffman encoding instead. Although apparently we said 'ah, screw it', and are moving over to lzma, which uses a form of arithmetic coding anyway.

strange
just checked and it's indeed gzip
I'm sure I said to use bzip2, didn't rename the thing either

Phoebus, you might consider editing the conf file data/init/interface.txt and add [KEY:=] to all the entries that contain only [KEY:+] (four of them, total).  This will make the +/= key on the keyboard work as well as the KEYPAD_+ key for those commands.  Not everyone uses the keypad, especially when new to DF, and it gets confusing when you can move the selector up the list, but not downward because of the keymapping (and holding shift for down works, but shift for up fails because [KEY:_] isn't bound to match [KEY:-] ;)).

I'm playing with the v0.31.13v0 right now, and had forgotten I had made that change until something didn't work for me just now. :)

Damn, barrels are harder to make than I was expecting.  Of course, having to think in inverse color makes it more of a challenge than the size. ;)  First try looks like crap, but I'm getting there.

Can anything be done about the upper ASCII letters in names becoming objects when applying the tileset to an existing save?

I don't think so.
But you could try enabling TrueType font to see if that helps with the problem.
Go in Data/Init/Init.txt
Change [PRINT_MODE:STANDARD] to [PRINT_MODE:2D]
Change [TRUETYPE:NO] to [TRUETYPE:YES]
Restart the game.

As a bonus, you are playtesting the new TrueType font support! ;)
