Trying to get a basic tutorial done, and here comes a version that fixes a pile of nasty, nasty bugs (shrubs, vamps, truetype, hostile tamed animals) and I have to start over (well, not 'have', but...) :o  :'(

Oh well, at least I have this awesome tileset to keep my happiness number up.  :D :D :D

THANKS, PHOEBUS!

Phoebus, you still have the setup for Kohaku's birds wrong. Most of the graphics should apply for giant birds, not normal birds because those are vermin. See Kohaku's post a couple of post earlier.

I've got a problem when I try to change fonts in the current version of Phoebus. I use the tileset picker, and it switches the font as expected, but the font on the main menus of the game remain untouched.

Is there something else I need to do?

Either you must be playing with TTF on, or you're not using the tileset generated by the tileset assembler.

Thanks for the reminder, I'll fix it when I'm back, monday.

Ah, excellent. I didn't even know that was a thing. Thanks!

Any updates for the Linux crowd?  The pre-installed version is still 34.05 (http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2944).

If you have okay wrestling, you can stab someone in the lower body, making their guts pop out. If you then wrestle and pinch the guts, you can sever them. By then, the guy's probably unconscious. If he's not, strangle him until he is and cave in his skull with the guts.

No, really.

Has anyone come up with any solutions for the vanishing text with TrueType?

So far it's only been to turn TTF off.

Here's what I've been doing to play DF under linux.  The steps assume you have already downloaded and untarred vanilla DF, and unzipped the win32 version of Phoebus DF that you want to use into parallel directories (34.06v00 below).

  cd ~/Games/DwarfFortress
  mv df_linux DF_Vanilla_34_06_linux
  ln -s DF_Vanilla_34_06_Linux Vanilla
  cp -R Vanilla DF_Phoebus_34_06v00_linux
  ln -s DF_Phoebus_34_06v00_linux Phoebus
  ln -s DF_Phoebus_34_06v00_win32 Win32Ph
  rm Phoebus/raw/graphics/graphics_example.txt
  rm -rf Phoebus/raw/graphics/example
  cp -R Win32Ph/raw/* Phoebus/raw/
  cp Win32Ph/data/art/* Phoebus/data/art/
  cp Win32Ph/data/init/colors.txt Phoebus/data/init/
  cp Win32Ph/data/init/*init.txt Phoebus/data/init/
  cp Win32Ph/data/init/embark_profiles.txt Phoebus/data/init/

Once the above is done, just vi Phoebus/data/init/*init.txt to make any changes to the init files (I turn sound back on, and change the pop and baby caps).

These steps should also work for the Mac version, as well.

That's basically what I do as well but I run the tileset through my Tileset Resizer script first, and then install the Beefmo Dwarfs by hand.
You still need a Windows install/VM to use the Tileset Assember though so you can't use any of the optional settings in a linux only environment due to the use of .NET4.0.
Phoebus should really find someone to help him rewrite it in a cross platform language like python or java so everyone can enjoy easily.

I think that might be one of the most dwarfen contraptions I've ever seen the blueprints of.

If only I had the time.  I've wanted to learn this kind of thing with Python for quite a while now. ;)
