I have a quick question regarding posting on these forums. Whenever my post gets longer than can be displayed by the edit box, my cursor seems to forget where it's supposed to be, and the view of my text jumps around so that I can't see what I'm typing. Is there something I can do to stop that from happening?

My post reply window correctly shows scrollbar, so your problem is something more special.

Are you using internet explorer by any chance? Don't. Works fine for me on firefox.

If you don't like firefox theres also chrome, or opera. Id say the above also probably applies if you're using safari. If you can't solve the problem by using a proper different browser, then I'm not sure what else might be wrong.

Yea, the forum software doesn't like IE very much for some reason and I've gotten that with IE before. As Collic said, Firefox works fine with this.

It seems to be pretty random. I've had it on one computer with IE, while two others(also IE) handle it just fine.

But since the new forum sports a resize window option(drag a bar at the bottom of the typing box), it's not really a problem anymore.

Yeah, did you see that tiny white bar in the bottom of the post screen? You can push it down to type longer posts. I only found out it did that yesterday...

Also, hitting that little red A in the "stuff to do to your words" bar will calm it down.

Yeah, my window jumps to the top every time I type a character, but now that I've found the window resize thing, it should be fine.

I have seen similar problems on other smf forums where it turned out to be an issue with older versions of IE.

It's almost always a problem with IE. IE is junk, use it if you want, but don't be surprised if web pages don't display properly. People aren't as willing to code around the things it gets wrong these days. Having said that, if you're reading the boards at work or somewhere similar, chances are you don't have the choice of ditching it. Ah well.

Personally this sort of problem is one of the reason's I've drifted more towards Chrome.
Chrome allows you to resize textareas regardless, which is quite handy.

Course it plays heck with the layout of some sites when you do that but eh, some rendering oddness is a small price to pay for being able to stretch a textarea to fill the entire window.

As for IE being junk, I'm forced to agree as long as it utterly fails the Acid test.
