Nooo, that's someone else... I'm sure Rapunzel was the one with long hair, top of the tower...

Next you will say Snow White put on a glass slipper that fitted!

But now I really wanna try Orzammar...

Rapunzel goes with Rumplestiltskin and the hair, I think. Pretty sure we are thinking of the same person and story, I just don't remember a witch.

There was some witch that trapped her in the tower...

Ahh, google it!

Rapunzel

Unreal is right. Rapunzel has nothing to do with Rumpelstiltskin.

Rumpelstiltskin

Old rumple takes a unnamed miller's daughter for the gold weaving after he lies to the king. Boing.

When I saw your inverted tower, I had a vision of gigantic underground tower completely separated from the bed rock surrounding it, looking as if a god had upended it in the earth.

Only the seamless joining of the point at the tower's top to the rock below would hint that it had in fact been carved in place!

You must post picture of this (in Stonesense!) when it is done.

Well aren't we a cheery bunch of tongue-cutting masochists today.

That actually sounds more like an elf than anything.

I think I'll take on that tree idea. Anyone have thoughts as to how you'd make a 'world tree' above ground? Maybe a world tower cap so i have an excuse for it's being 50 stories below ground. Tunnel tube would be awesome too. Entirely out of tunnel tube wood/flesh. Damn that would take a long time. Then leave the tops of all the structures i build natural and apply water. Tree farm on a tree.

Make the whole base of the tree (and the first 50% of the z-levels) completely made of any type of brown-wooded trees. The top would look pretty good as a giant olivine sphere. Bonus points for having pumps that will periodically drop water from the top of the tree to the forest floor.

genious! That's a lot of olivine though...
This is starting to sound like it ought to be a mixed-blood elf-dwarf fortress built on a forest retreat.
Little do the sad-sap, engineer-hating monkey men know that it'll rain magma alternating with the water, or at least whenever they piss us off.

Now I'm completely out of ideas as to how to get both water and magma to the surface without my computer blue-screening.

Sheesh, talk about a train going off the tracks here.

ANYWAYs, I like the LightHouse, and the upended tower actually started underground, but your god idea has be intringed. Has me thinking of lightning bolts flying from the sky... let's see what rock would be good for this. Perhaps four coming down around the military tower.

Someone help me remember that rock.

I'm thinking Dragon for the lighthouse.

Also as for the tree, I agree! PURE GENIOUS I would use it if the idea had not already been taken by someone else. I'll post pics of this fortresses progress if you post pics of that tree.

and another also is I do plan to put picks of this fortress up in stone sense eventually.

You should build a tree anyway, the chances of mine not failing miserably are slimmer than the chances of a noble not demanding something we can't provide, during a time of fortress-wide crisis.

On the plus side, the elven retreat I embarked on just so happened to contain their queen. She's been walled in. Should she be the center of the tree's base?

Oh yes, bonus points if you manage to keep her alive as well.
