No one saw it coming.
A whole city, one of the greatest in the country, flattened in mere minutes.
The whole place was in disarray
Something needed to be done.
This was the City’s last hope...
The mayor breathed a heavy sigh as he waited for the townspeople to arrive, impatiently pacing up and down the wooden floorboards while he did so.
“I thought you said they will be here soon?” Mayor Spitfire asked his loyal guard angrily, who was stationed next to the main seat which belonged to the Mayor.
“All in good time, it’s difficult in such conditions as this.” The guard answered.
Mayor Spitfire was still in deep stress after his beloved city had been brought to ruin. He was never the same, always paranoid. It would surprise him that anyone could get a good night’s sleep nowadays.
“Would you like another drink?” asked the guard.
Mayor Spitfire shook his head, “No, I’ll be fine...”
The room was still in silence for another five minutes, but the Mayor was now sitting, his impatience still present however as he drummed his fingers on the armrest. The only things that could be heard were the cold wind whistling against the windows and the occasional dog barking outside.
“Where did they come from...?” Spitfire asked himself quietly. The guard turned round to face him, confused. “Those werewolves, they came from nowhere, and those outlaws as well.” The guard didn’t answer, instead turning back to face the front, as if he didn’t hear the Mayor speak at all. The Mayor begun to clench his fist, causing it to shake in anger as he spoke; “We will get the ones who are responsible for this... and when we do, the others will know when to give themselves up.”
Suddenly, the silence was broken by the great wooden doors of the town hall slamming open. The Mayor looked up swiftly, laying his eyes upon the group which entered. The guards who were escorting them took position on either side of the Mayer’s seat, while the two guarding the rear locked the door behind the group and guarded the way out.
“Please,” The Mayor said politely to the group. “Take a seat.” The Mayor held a hand out, indicating for the survivors to be seated. He was surprised that there were only so few. The Mayor leaned to the guard slightly, whispering, “Have any civilians escaped at all?”
“None at all, this is all of them”. The guard replied, whispering also.
The Mayor sat up straight again, and explained the plan in action.
After all the people had sat down the Mayor begun to speak again, “I have given all of you, the power to kill anyone in this room, as long as a majority can come to an agreement.” The Mayor explained. “Each day one person out of your group will be killed.”
The group begun to whisper amongst them at the proposal, it was a little farfetched and barbaric thing to do.
“You have until the end of the day. Discuss amongst yourselves now.” The Mayor ordered, sitting back and watching the scene develop.
