So apparently obsidian can't be built with. Because it's an economic stone that isn't available on the stone list to make useable. Making our entire obsidian factory and the stone we dug utterly, utterly useless.

Actually you can make obsidian show up in the menu, set it as usable, and then hide it again with a slight raw fix and un-fix so it keeps compatible.
I'd imagine the setting would perpetuate through future saved forts too.
The guide on how to do that is in the magmawiki obsidian article I think.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

All right, thanks. I'll give that a try next time we run out of dark grey stone.

In other news, as 31.05 is out, Cloudpillar is saved. I hadn't been able to make any progress and save my game for the last two days, which I now suspect had to do with the melting bug. Transferred the save and away we go! Halfway through year 5, still way behind schedule, still going strong :D

Argh. Well that was a long turn. I just finished year 5, need to go send it off to Silfur with an update. It was definitely one of the most eventful DF years I've had. Also: There are five forgotten beats sitting in a small passage between the map edge and the sealed cavern. Five. There were two before, and three showed up this year.

Gonna go send him the save, then come back and edit the DFMA map into this post when I'm done with that. It's starting to look pretty cool.

Are these the same five from the "what's going on in your fort" thread?

Aye. And the sixth is going to have to be non-canon, since it only appeared while I was testing out the moat-filling pumps midway into year 6. Dunno if a sixth will show up on Silfurdreki's turn.

Overly ambitious megaprojects are practically the definition of dwarf fortress, so what if we don't finish in time.

Woohoo!

That's the spirit!

Now I'm motivated to finish phase one and pass it on, even if just this phase seems to take forever!

Pray for more dwarves. Hah. Year 3 is ending and I'm only about 50% done with the infrastructure to do my part. That is, assuming our goal remains 100 z-levels of amazing. We do have one really awesome feature 99% complete, though. I think in the end someone must die to complete it, because of Toady's new channeling system. I just thought of a possible way around that, but that might be less dwarfy than the sacrifice method.

All righty. Most teams are around year five as best I can tell, so that's about how far 'ahead' they are.

Had to revert to spring, due to the unfortunate breaching of a second side to a cavern layer leading to what I'd like to call a 'triple Forgotten Beast surprise'; the fact that I had no real military kinda only aggravated this problem, and they were more or less stationed where everyone was, thus really making it impossible to go on.

Knowing where not to go and what not to do will help me, for I'll be having to redo half a game year of work. Annoying.

Yeah, losing my progress twice was kinda a buzz kill.  But then I let my OCD side take over with the designations and it was all good.

Ack, year five? I'm still waiting on Jordrake's reply to the design mockups I sent him. Jordrake, if you see this, could you just check your PM settings?

I hope I didn't scare him off or anything.

Working on one of the two towers exclusively, the tower has risen to around the 70th Z-level. A 180 degree loop is almost finished - I don't advise another one, as they're a massive pain to actually designate.

Currently in mid-summer. Will be able to finally finish my turn this thursday and pass it on to the next person in line.

Is the 31.06 version allowed for this? The rules says only 31.04.
