Well, nice determination.

I got discouraged when I realized that even getting the scaffolding up for a proper 100-level tower was impossible in the given timeframe.

15% done with the scaffolding and 50% done with the plumbing by year 3, with numerous bugs preventing forward progress. Considering 100% plumbing is required to finish the scaffolding, and plumbling/job bugs and changes combine with massive FPS problems to halt the project every time I open the program...

I can't even finish my preliminary work to hand it over to my patient partner. I'm supposed to cast a block of obsidian, but the power transfer between pumps has been unnecessarily complicated/nerfed in the new version, and dwarves refuse to do their jobs at a rate that wastes months of game time and countless dwarfhours (manhours, a labor term). Well, enough complaining.

Suffice it to say: Team Beleaguered (or rather, a member thereof) cannot get past the game's numerous alpha problems --and real-life's annoying habit of being important-- to turn in a decent amount of work. Tomorrow, I unload (and supervise the unloading of) imported goods for a private business. Building a real business is somewhat more satisfying than the world of DF.

Alrighty.  Man, not much going on in the six weeks since I've been gone.  Let's see if we can't get an honest-to-goodness completed 100 story tower finished under the rules!  Downloading now.  For motivation, I'm not going to let myself play any Starcraft till our shining tower is complete.

Also, anyone know the science on 3d viewers?  I saw some interesting pics over in the skyscrapes thread.

Here's to completion!

Good news and bad news for Team Chaotic Evil.

Good news: someone asked the engravers to smooth an _entire_ level that we'd completely cleared.  I undesignated that and got the FPS from 16 to 27.

Bad news: I crashed just before fall, so it's back to summertime.

Well, it seems like I'm the only one who still remembers about this thread.  One last post and I'll let it die if no one else cares.

Team Chaotic Evil has pictures!

My favorite shot.

With classes and DF burnout I haven't been able to complete year 8.  Technically, there are still 5-6 floors to go on this guy and 3 seasons to do it.  I may wrap it up if anyone else gets interested in the competition again.  That, or if I get really OCD some day.  The map and save are posted a ways back if anyone wants to play with them.

Pics were taken with Fortress Overseer.  No one's finished, but I'd love to see the work we all have put in on these guys.  Let's get some more pics up!

*Edit: added Stonesense shot.  You can see the coloring and the moat much better here.

If you think this looks good you should load up the save, run it through the visualizer, and scroll around.  I wish I could upload a video of me panning the camera around the tower.  Maybe I'll try to figure out how to do that if I run into some extra time later on.

Wow.

Just... wow.

Imagine a combination of power goals 44 and 45: The ruler convenes a council of the nobles to appoint you the high priest of the nearby towns. Instead of waiting for them to finish their drinking session, you walk in and crush a goblet while berating their disgusting behaviour and general incompetence.

Damn. That looks pretty amazing. Congratulations, all.

I wish I had continued this... Cloudpillar passed eight years but only managed to get the scaffolding done, so it never looked that cool. Technically I was supposed to finish the next year, but I ended up forgetting about it. Perhaps someday...

I guess you guys are the winner by default? It looks awesome, anyhow, so I have no qualms in just awarding you the non-existant (but incredibly impressive and cool looking) grand prize.

If this competition was a single effort and did not require a team then I would've participated back then...

By the way, I also agree that tower is a piece of art :)

this reminds me a lot of "God's Cactus" - the mansion of E.

AWESOME. *applause*
