Er. Yeah, I guess I haven't updated the OP in a bit. The thread went up when 04 came out. We're officially going with "whatever version is current."

Finished!
Or, at the very least, finished with my turn. 89/90/100 Z-levels done, depending on what you're counting by (walls/floors/stairs, respectively). The next two years really should be spent shoring up the areas of the fort that are lacking - namely, housing and military. That and building up the other tower, I guess.

A note to my team members: I declined the liason's request to become a barony or whatever, in case you're wandering. The liason may ask again, but I didn't want to leave the next person in line hanging with another noble to house and whatnot.

And with that, I really should be going to bed.

Go Team Chaotic Evil.  I'm really happy with how the fort's turning out!

Also, this competition is just way more fun all around than it has any right to be.

I tried the workaround for making obsidian a buildable stone type that is on magmawiki, and it didn't work. :(

What I did was removing the [MAX_EDGE:20000] tag in inorganic_stone_layer.txt, then I started up the game and tried to find obsidian in the stone menu and no dice.

Did I do anything wrong? Has anyone else gotten it to work?

I am sad to report that when my turn comes around on our tower, I won't be able to play. I'm stuck in Maine for the next two months with just a shitty laptop that can't play DF.

That's too bad. Your team's tower is looking pretty cool though!

Silfurdreki's on year six now, so it sohuldn't be too long until Cloudpillar... well, I don't know if I should say 'is all finished up' but it's going to be as finished as it can be within contest time constraints. Judging by the progress people have been posting, it look like it's the first three teams still in the running. Which is cool, the other teams just won't have a swanky tower to call their own :P

I've kinda been holding up our boat more than a little - I'm about to move house, which is difficult in a family of five - and this delay has been kinda augumented by the time consumed by the design discussion. So, yeah, I'm the one that's causing the main delay for Jordake and I.

We do have an embark, though...

Well, I've got Cloudpillar back to do year 7. Things have been slowing down a bit but judging by the infrequent progress reports it seems that that's happening across the board. Hopefully we're all still going on this.

I'd be entering way late, and with "DFG 31 03", but if I find a an experienced team-mate can this Noobie play?

All right, Cloudpillar just finished year 7, and Silfurdreki and I have reasoned that there's not a chance in hell we're going to be done after eight years. Frankly, we were just too damn ambitious. It looks like we'll be done the scaffolding alone by the end of year eight... probably. Then we have framework to do, and then we build the actual content of the tower. So I guess lesson learned in not biting off more than you can chew there. However! We plan on finishing the fort regardless. Hope those of you still legally in the running are still plugging away at this thing.

Team SkyCrashes is (apparently) hard at work on our turn 6. A little prodding can go a long way.

Well, Team Beleaguered is still stuck on Phase One. I've dropped it three times successively due to frustration from dwarves failing to perform their jobs. The whole project is stuck on a plumbing problem, and I can't get anyone to perform two simple tasks. I'm not using burrows in connection with it, and the path seems clear enough. Anyone else having similar problems? One major hangup (THE most major hangup) is that I can't get a single gear deconstructed to stop the test waterflow. Mechanics are available; the path seems open. Ideas for solutions?

Team Beleaguered...

Apt name.

Anyways, one of the things I was noticing as I was playing the new version was that if a dwarf claimed a job but for some reason didn't complete it the job would still be assigned to that dwarf, even though he went off to do other things.

Try checking your job list to see if there's a dwarf tasked to that destroy building job. Try removing that dwarf from the job, too.

I don't know if that's your problem, but it can't hurt to check it out.

Team SkyCrashes is finished with its sixth turn. I haven't taken a look at any of the progress since, well, my turn because of computer issues, so I can only assume everything is going terrific.
