All righty, and that's six teams. I doubt anyone else will want to join at this point, so clearing up the thread title a bit.

In Cloudpillar news, aaaaaargh goblins. I realize now that my decision to start the scaffolding on the outside of the exterior walls rather than the interior was poorly thought out. Now when we build the walls it still won't give the scaffolding builders protection from gobbo fire. And almsot all our ambushes have been marksgobs. Grr. I'll have to delay our continued up-building. Also, we're halfway through the fifth summer and almost (but not quite) at level 40. Admittedly most of our scaffolding work started in year 3 but we're going to have to pick up the pace as best we can.

Our topic. For teammates only, presumably.

Hmm, is Duke 2.0 not on our team? I thought he wanted to join and I had invited him. If he posts in affirmation, add him up. Tbino already approved.

Judging by the last exchange you guys had in the thread, he was waiting to see if any group had anything interesting planned before he joined anyone. Dunno if he's still checking in on this.

Also, has anyone managed to get a DM yet? I have some [PET_EXOTIC] critters I'd like to train but I'm wondering if it's ever going to show up. According to the Bug Tracker there's a bug that causes the DM to sometimes not show up and sometimes not be able to train exotic pets, but I want to check with the rest of you. If nobody else past the first few years has a DM we should do something about it.

Yeah, my computer recently got a bunch of crap that caused my FPS to go into the gutter. I only recently fixed it, and I'm still tinkering with the settings. I might get back into this. Mayhaps.

That and to point out the mysterious floating dwarves from the horrible Level 69 Warp Accident.

Details? This sounds hilarious.

Idiot workers build things in the wrong order. Idiot workers cause a collapse involving 6 dwarves.
2 of them stay on the platform.
4 fall.
...two hit the ground.

EDIT: Quite frankly, the least I could do was build estensions of the tower to surround the two floating gits. They are each now sitting atop their own coffins. Too bad the female one didn't have a lover, floating babies would be priceless. The GUY does have a lover, though. So there will still  be miracle babies in this fort.

Also: this fort is now death-proof.

So apparently obsidian can't be built with. Because it's an economic stone that isn't available on the stone list to make useable. Making our entire obsidian factory and the stone we dug utterly, utterly useless.

I would be willing to vote in favor of allowing everyone to modify the raws to make obsidian buildable.

Would be nice if that'd been brought up before I spent a month dumping it all to clear space for other stone :P But perhaps we'll all reconvene on the matter if we run out of dark grey stone. Which is pretty possible.

I'll fix a glitch with or without permission. You can discard our turn from the competition if you like, but a bug is a bug and will be squashed if it hinders building.

Started on my second year. The spiraling tower design is rather annoying to designate and actually build - it's been nearly two in-game months and really only one new floor has been made. Of course, I did have to add in a second dining room higher up, and progress seems to slow when stuff gets higher... but still. I'm going to be stopping when the tower finishes a 180-degree circle, if I get to that point at all during my year.

The trick to the spiral is to do it in a couple steps:

- If you are just moving over and not diagonal, then designate all the walls, suspend the ones you need so that nothing is blocked (e.g. corner tiles), and then designate ramps on all the flat tiles so there's access everywhere and hit go.  Then, once everything else is done, un-suspend the corner tiles you suspended.

- If you're moving diagonally, it's a couple steps more complicated.  Designate all the walls, deleting any walls that you need to replace with floors so everything has walkable access.  Designate the floors (I had 8 designated floor tiles per circle to reach otherwise inaccessible walls).  Suspend the corner tiles, like before, so that everything is walkable.  Be sure to pay attention to accessibility, because there are (I think) 4 extra tiles you have to suspend so that everything is accessible.  Then, designate all the ramps and unpause!

Don't feel obliged to keep going on the spiral if you totally hate it and think it'll consume all your time.  I'm sure you could do something else really interesting too.

I like the idea of a 180 degree spiral. It will add awesome to the tower.

The whole 8-year limit may be pushing us for this 100-z-level tower deal. We'd be fortunate to get it built in that time (what with the goofy immigrant system that has only given us 64 dwarves to work with in 3 years), much less furnished and magnificent. It may turn into more of a show-and-tell for my team at this rate.

Maybe my plan is just too ambitious. I'd certainly hate to ruin it for tbino simply because a combination of few migrants and overambitious design push me beyond schedule before I can pass it on.

I know how you feel, but a limit's a limit. Up to you whether you compromise your plans, or you break the limit and finish it as a personal effort. I think Silfurdreki and I crossed the 'too ambitious' line quite a while back, so it's pretty likely we'll have to take 9 or 10 years to properly finish. Nevertheless we press on, and remain optimistic.

So we might not be alone in failing the 8 year limit :)

This probably wouldn't be a problem if I could get some dwarves. It was year 2 before I passed the 20 mark.

I really need to start cheating forcing the dwarves to build valuable artifacts via cheating controlling their material choice.
