Warhammer 40k MMO (for real this time!)
« on: May 16, 2010, 12:53:16 pm »

We've finally got some legitimate confirmation. Turns out it's THQ that's been developing it, which is weird because I don't recall them doing any MMOs before, and maybe I just have my head in the sand but I haven't heard much of them since the gamecube days.

Anyway, we can be sure that it will be showing up at E3 in some capacity.

THQ has the W40k: Dawn of War games, so I'm not entirely surprised that they're behind a W40k MMO.

I already had made a thread on this. T_T ... Granted it would require necroing to update.

Yeah a new WOW clone. ...i doubt that THQ is the kind of company to come up with something risky yet innovative.

WoW itself wasn't THAT innovative. In its essence, it's actually a pretty generic RPG, just done VERY right.

So we got monsters above, monsters below, dwarves in the middle and a party in the dining hall. Sounds good to me.
If all else fails, remember one thing:  kittens are delicious, nutritious little goblin-baiters, cavern explorers, and ambush-finders.

I didn't said it was.  ;)

Dunno- maybe we'll see those vehicles used in an innovative way. Or maybe you'll just see them in the tutorial. There's a lot of room to be creative and awesome with a 40k MMO.

I always figured Battlefield 40,000 would work much better than a more traditional MMO.

That way you get the shooty and the choppy and you can more easily weight armies, so that you get fifty guardsmen to one marine, or something.

But I kind of wonder what it says about me that when I imagined actually playing a good WH40k MMO, it felt good in my pants if you know what I mean. Nothing good I presume.

I would have been far more interested in a normal warhammer 40K RPG......

And it's a good way to get 49 of those guardsmen to grief and teamkill until they get to be the marine.

At least there's a logical in-character progression that justifies leveling up and becoming ridiculously more powerful.

Nah nah. You just make Guardsmen players into the vehicle class.

...

Although now I'm imagining a Leman Russ hitting a ramp and flying through the air, General Lee horn sounds, and slam down on top of an enemy.

Ehm... that's been known for, well, quite some time. About all else that is known about it is that it will be a standard-fair MMORPG, not them fancy MMOFPSs everyone's been slavering about for quite some time, Orks will be playable (so WAAAAAAAAAGH!) and Tyranids will not, but will make an appearance.

Eagerly awaiting some info on this year's E3, just because the WH40K universe is so awesomely/cheesily grim and dark, and I'm kind of burned out of all these forthcoming commonplace anime paradises that will inundate us the following few years.

IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FUTURE... THERE IS ONLY GRINDING THAT DAMN GREAT UNCLEAN ONE FOR THAT +15 Stamina BOLTER!
