Quick answer tho:

Download latest version of Dwarf Fortress. http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/index.html
Install/unzip it into a folder, whatever.
Download latest Genesis mod of whatever flavor. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=52988.0
Install/unzip into your Dwarf Fortress folder and overwrite everything.

Load up DF, make a pocket world real quick. Start playing and go to Adventurer. If you can choose kobold, goblin, wesman, osmans, etc... you installed it right!
