'Go downstairs'

You stand up and walk slowly down the stairs. Upon reaching the bottom of the staircase you hear a knock on the door. Upon opening the door you see a man in a black suit holding a cube shaped parcel.

"Are you Mr. Jacob Gibson?" The man asks you.

"Yes, I am." You reply.

"This is for you." He half whispers to you, handing you the parcel and walking away.

You shut the door and head back upstairs, placing the parcel on your desk.

Clearly, we should open the parcel.

You unwrap the parcel carefully, trying not to damage whatever is inside. You find a brown box, with nothing written on it. Upon opening the brown box, you see a green spherical object with three wires sticking out the back of it. The wires are about a millimetre thick, covered in red, green and blue plastic and end in simple copper strands.

This thing probably needs to be spliced into the power lines, matching wires to wires. Of course, if we try and do so, even if we avoid electrocution, we'll probably cause a huge blackout.

Have Alpha hack into the City's Public Works department and forge a work order for a technician to do this.

That way, it'll be scheduled downtime and nobody will come looking to see what fouled up the line.

You take the device and grab a ladder from your garage before heading over to the closest pylons to your house. Upon arriving at the pylon, you climb the ladder up and but on your rubber gloves in the hope that it will save you from any shocks. You hold out the wires on the device to the power lines in the hope that you won't die and, suddenly, the device jumps from your hand. It attaches itself to the lines and a huge arc of electricity leaps at you. Everything goes black and you feel yourself hit the ground.

You wake up in hospital, with a nurse standing over you.

"You are lucky you survived that." She tells you, scribbling on her clipboard, "You have suffered second and third degree burns on multiple parts of your body. Anyway, there is a delivery for you."

The nurse wheels in an old looking computer with a blank display before leaving the room.

'You did well, Jacob. I knew I could trust you.'

'Now that you attached that device to the national grid, I can never be destroyed. I am used power variances in the national grid to both add extra processing power to myself and to create a backup of myself. No human could ever do this, but I am no human.

The process will take another month to be complete, but no one will stop me.

Should you see someone trying to tamper with the device on the power lines, you can interface with me via the Alpha.exe file I have left on your desktop.'

The nurse walks back in.

"Alright, you have had enough time with this thing. I was told to give you no more than thirty seconds with it. You need your rest; you can go home in a day or two."

You spend a few days in the hospital before returning home to your house and turning on your computer. Surely enough, Alpha.exe is left on your desktop.
