Letters in the sidebar

Sometimes I get letters in the sidebar. Right now, I have a red C there... and I've had other colored letters before as well. But nothing significant ever seems to be going on when they appear. Could someone tell me what they mean?

Never mind. I see now that one of my dogs was fighting an undead one humped camel. C must mean combat!

Yep.  You can hit 'r' to review the combat reports after the fact!

Anyone know what the other letters that can appear there mean?
I know I've seen more than one, but don't remember what they were.

Pretty sure I've seen a green 'H' for hunting.

H for hunting.
S for sparring (if you see this, count yourself lucky).
