I'll do it. My mic is utter horsecrap, but I'll do it. I have a low enough voice to make a park bench vibrate. \o/

Great job on the music and lyrics so far, fits perfectly with Dwarf Fortress if you ask me. I have already started playing Dwarf Fort with this in the background. I would help sing but alas, I am an awful singer and I have no mic. Good luck on the final version though, I'm sure it will come out great!

Great song, but I personally find it hard to sing along with the lyrics when there's no rest between verses. I'd think a one bar space to breathe between verses would make it easier to sing to. Also, it's probably just the fact that I haven't practiced all that much, or that it's just me, but I can't quite get the spoken bit at the end to work. The only audio recording software I've used is Audacity, which doesn't have much of a visual way of keeping time in a song, so I guess I still have to try that.

Sorry for adding criticisms of the song after it's been recorded.

I'd be willing to put up a template recording of the song, but my headset appears to have grown a set of legs and disappeared. Also, I'm in the middle of university exams. I'm a musician, not a singer, so I can't promise any kind of quality to the voice.

Heres Mine! :D

" I suppose ye be thinking why the dwarves may be drinking
It aint cause of misery or woe
For ye see while the elf menace still shows
theres barley to sow...

I suppose you be wanderin why forts keep on toppling sure as the sun rises nigh...
if ye be assumin elves be teh key to dwarves misfortunes and foes
Iy would say it is so....

While there is elven foe's still standing the stills will keep running over with ale

But once they are gone,
the dwarves will still drink
The dwarves will drink cheerfully
The dwarves will drink in victory.
the dwarves will drink to the ends of their days."

Gather one, gather all, heed and stand-to,
the pointy-ears pricks are back, here for me and you!
But well send them back to their homes, in little pieces, too,

so go down and get some ammo, and bring me up some brew!

.....

Guys, we already have the basic tune. Either make another verse for it,  or GTFO.

Hey, there isn't any reason we can't have TWO epic songs on one thread!  ;D

Dwarven economics are still in the experimental stages. The humans have told them that they need to throw a lot of money around to get things going, but every time the dwarves try all they just end up with a bunch of coins lying all over the place.

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

If I can get ahold of a mic, I would sing it. I will warn you though, I'm not a very good singer, and I can't do scottish accents.  Also, I don't know much of anything about recording things on computers, so somebody would have to walk me through how to do it.

no-quality training spears are about as effective as a limp noodle at doing damage
You forget that a limp noodle has a wobbly attribute to it. In fact, its characteristics and shape may liken it to a small whip made out of food.
In this sense, the limp noodle is a dangerous thing and should be slurped with extreme caution, lest your lips go flying off in an arc.

I have reading week coming up next week, and I found my headset. I'll try getting drunk and singing a couple verses. Assuming the audio quality is decent (I can't promise anything about singing quality) I'll send the song organizer (I forget his name at the moment) a copy.

I'm pretty sure I'd be changing the line "Make love to the rock" to "Dig into the rock", since we all know that DF creatures reproduce via spores. I can't get the spoken part near the end to work right so far though.
