I think other people in the thread were assuming her book would be bad because she's not an author. And because the book does sound a little trite from the back-cover-synopsis.

I wouldn't expect a police officer to know the first thing about creating a national healthcare bill. I sure don't.

But we should be careful not to just assume she can't do it well. Down that road lies elitism, and ignoring the efforts of the amateur. And isn't everyone an amateur at some point? And does the occasional amateur not produce something wonderful?

I don't know, man, from the back of a book I can usually tell if it's going to be terribad or not, and the way she's described it (and her talk show, just watched a clip or two, dear god that is awful) makes it sound absolutely crappy.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

And I'm probably glad I don't, too.

Yeah, but she has to wear the shoes and the big jockey rides her and everything.

And she was in Coyote Ugly. No riches are worth that.

Oh god. TERRIBLE REPRESSED MEMORIES SPROUTING UP!

I watched this one movie where a barbie doll came to life and taught a young girl the lesson of coming of age (While fucking her father). I watched the whole thing.

WHY THE FUCK DID I WATCH THAT??!?!?

When I was a kid, I read a book about a kid who got shrunk down in Legoland and saw the society that all the little lego people had at night. It was pretty funny.

We need more deconstructions and less sycophantic tales of emotionally less-than-stable teenage girls.

Maybe we should wait for this to come out and actually read a bit of it before we rage incessantly.
Hating something based on who wrote it or what it sounds like will become a habit if you don't at least experience it first.

I've known a model and she was a smart, nice person.

I've watched America's Top Model and been bored to sleep.

At least try something before you judge it.

Quote from: article
She has already finished the first, called "Modelland", which is about a teen girl in a make-believe society at an academy for exceptional models called Intoxibellas. It will be published in the summer of 2011.

Writing on her web site, Banks said the book was "for all the girls and guys who want a lot more FANTASY in their lives … and some fierceness and magic, romance and mystery, crazy and wild adventures, and yeah, some danger too."

This. This is why it is going to be shit.

Yes, you can tell a book is bad by the fact that a group of people in the book are called "intoxibellas"

Damn, I should have never read that shitty "There Eyes Were Watching God" book. I mean, a characters name is TEA CAKE. How absurd!

EDIT: but yeah, IMHO, the book will be garbage, but I like fighting for the little guy... or big guy, I guess...
