Well i finally tested my first run with a green glass cage full of kittens tied up. Well as soon as i deconstructed the support, the kittens were all DEAD before it even fell, and the whole cage fell as blocks... Then the magma took like 5 minutes after to hit the bottom, casting all those cute kitten corpses in obsidian, with my guy who deconstructed it fell in too. I have the recording of the construction, but i kinda messed up showing the rest. Now its time to undig it all and recover my goods, and do it all again with GOBBIES!
If someone tells me how to upload the video file, i will...

EDIT:Nevermind! I figured it out... Heres the video of it built, the magma top level, the water being drawn from the lake(Forgot to show magma being brought in) And the nice smoke right after it all collapses. Im not very good at videos, so im flying all over the place...

Oh, I've had a merry old time with prisoner execution in my volcano-fort. First was the aptly-named MurderHole, a bridge extending over the mouth of the volcano, where prisoners would be dumped over the side. After four dwarves (including my expedition leader) somehow fell into the volcano, I abandoned the idea and erected some gold statues to commemorate them in dwarven fashion.

Next was the DrownPit (yes, I was naming these based on the string length for hotkeys). No dead dwarves this time, but as a few other people have said, it takes forever to drown anything.

My masterpiece was the Gauntlet. Not terribly original, but VERY effective. One square wide, 100 or so long, every square either a stone or weapon trap. Anything that makes it to the end, wins it's freedom...if it escapes the cage trap right at the mouth of the tunnel. So far, the goblin record is 43 squares.

Prisoners? Huh?

"Urist McAxeLord, have you captured any goblins?"

"Oh? I was supposed to capture them? *cleans his axe*"

One empty room filled with precious items.
One room entirely sealed off to hold the prisoners.
One lever outside the sealed chambers.
A 10-z-story drop beneath the precious item room.

Execution tower, fifteen stories high. Makes me feel like generating a world with a hundred stories above the ground.

My best way, something I've never, ever replicated since, was dropping prisoners into a room full of unicorns. They'd inevitably get gored to death.

An easy. ( Yet satisfying ) Way of doing it is to simply make a hole in the ground, two Z levels deep, put a weapon trap in it with 10 Serrated Blades ( Make sure they're low quality and weak. ), then throw in the prisoners one by one.

Goblin Lasher. Will it blend?...

Variety, for me.  I tend to separate my caged prisoners up into those worth keeping and those not (so child snatchers generally not, but high-ranking gobbos are).  Both sorts are stripped of everything valuable - armour, weapons etc.  Those worth keeping are set in their cages in my zoos.  Those not, are thrown into the lava pit.

Usually arena fights, but if a particular goblin/elf/noble did something really bad, I use a ballista/archer firing line. Using wooden arrows.

Well, you know how if you take your thumb and forefinger and hold them up to your eye, you can make it look like you're squishing someone's head? It's like that, only for real.

Well? How?

Other: I don't take prisoners (don't use traps). Last prisoner I had was about 20 fortresses ago. I used a firing squad: positioned my marksdwarfs around the cage, pulled a level to open the cage, and executed him. Was that too simple?

well, I tried to dispose of a donkey with a ballista, but apparently donkeys have super healing powers, as whenever I inflicted a wound, it was healed within 10 seconds.
