Also, I strike up a conversation with the human traders to see what they have to trade.
The humans respond a little belatedly, but you can hardly blame them. when you offer them the plastic sword, they look at eachother and shake their heads. these are merchants,  not scientists. They don't care about technology.

We should offer our services to the dorfs. Maybe we can score a free place to sleep and some food.
There are no dwarves around... it seems the merchants are still setting up.

>Inquire about the fort's history
The humans shrug. "It's 'bout 8 years old." they say.

Well awesome, in that case...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And my first action will be...
Look for any engravings the dwarfs may have made and examine them.
The walls seem strangely smooth in all but one area, which instead seems very warm.

((Anyone got a fix for the odd "bouncing reply box" bug? I'm really having trouble spelling when I can't look up and see what I've done.))

I'm kinda worried about the warm wall. I ask if there have been tales of traders experiencing accidents here.

No! don't ask questions! The dwarves aren't likely to burn the humans unless they start asking questions about the smell of burned elf.

I still think we should install ourselves here as low ranking nobles or soldiers or workers or something.
Maybe if we can gain their trust, we can take advantage of the communistic society.
Also, we offer the humans pencils and some of my notecards for trade. Tell 'em it can help keep track of things.
Wait, doesn't it seem odd we can understand all the dwarves and humans here? And that they can understand us?

would you prefer if you had to decipher everything the humans say?

didn't think so. If you want, pretend they're speaking german or something.

Remember, that one killstealing (literally) hunter dorf said someting to the effect of: There is no self, only[fortressname]. Communist.
Let us introduce DEMOCRACY and the AMERICAN WAY to our friends here.
Also, remember that we need to become members of this fort. I only have some sour candies to eat, and no water.

It might be hard to join the fort... We aren't part of the Armok-induced hive mind, so we would probably get Hammered for failing to do something or other pretty fast.

We have a gun.
Also, can we find out the population of this fortress, DM?
And what version were we all running? I am guessing 31.03.
