Unusually strong dwarves
« on: May 13, 2010, 04:37:58 pm »

I tend to have problems with buzzards stealing all my food. So I assigned the starting team to one squad, then ordered the buzzard killed. It died in seconds. Should non military dwarves be that strong?

There were seven of them. Strength in numbers.

I don't know, it is just a bird after all.  I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take me long to kill a bird, assuming I could catch it.

Axedwarf Vs bird... Axedwarf wins, FLAWLESS VICTORY.

Seriously... was the first one a Axedwarf of some sort?

Was the first guy to show up your miner? Because picks have this way of ending up lodged in things' skulls.

Then it was probably luck and buzzards being weak.

I'm pretty sure wildlife in general was toned down a bit also.  No more crazy carp, the mandrills tend to leave me alone, etc.

Maybe it was that the region was serene? do animals get stronger, rather than just stronger types appearing in more savage biomes?

If I put a miner in a squad, then set an attack order, Urist McStupid will drop his +Steel Pick+ and attempt to wrestle. Which, believe me, can be somewhat annoying when you run into a cavern and neglect to set up a military. 7 dabbling wrestlers + 1 troll = 1 Troll corpse and 7 PO'd/injured miners. I'm just glad no one died.

Yeah. Most wildlife now runs away from your dwarves, both above-ground and below-ground wildlife. Only problem is, after they are out of range, they tend to wander back sooner or later(sooner in the case of mole dogs/buzzards/rats that are trying to steal your food) and they keep interrupting jobs. So you have to kill them anyway.

no he was the broker...

Make a totem out of the bird's skull and put it in his office as a warning to visiting liasons.

"See this buzzard skull totem? It tried to steal from me. See the shelf it's on? Lots of empty room. Now, how much are you willing to offer us for our fine arts and crafts?"
