[0.31.03] Pregenerated worlds lets post some.

So back in 40d we had a bunch of seeds and saves of unique or desired worlds all horded up so we could get the worlds we wanted quick any easy.  I say its time to start building up the stockpile for 0.31.03 as well!  So start posting the seeds and saves to your awesome worlds!

Hi!

I am sorry, but I think we should wait till 31.04 gets released.

For one thing, that release should come in the near future (originally, Toady One even hoped to have released it by now). And for another thing, it fixes some bugs that were seemingly caused during world generation (missing fish) - so I think that 31.03 worlds are not that useful (^_^;;

For one thing, that release should come in the near future (originally, Toady One even hoped to have released it by now). And for another thing, it fixes some bugs that were seemingly caused during world generation (missing fish) - so I think that 31.03 worlds are not that useful (^_^;;

Well, it was a co-incidence that you got hit by that bug (^_^;; You see, that bug seemed to be something that hit you when you are unlucky - in most of my maps, I got fish without problems. But it is a reported bug that Toady One has noted as fixed in 31.04 (which is yet to be released).

Good point but Toady said that old saves would be compatible and it would be a shame if some one has generate a rare feature and we just let it go.

Hi!

If saves are compatible, generated worlds will be as well, so there is no reason to wait really.

The problem I see is that the generated worlds (= saves) may suffer from bugs that can't be fixed except by re-genning them. Sure, you can load your 31.03 save, but it would still have the no-fish bug, for instance, without any cure possible for that save.

AFAIK, land generation seeds won't be changed by the new version as wildlife is added after terrain generation. So while the world generated with 31.03 would remain fishless, the same seeds could be used to generate the world with fishes. But don't quote me on that.

Im quite certain that worlgen parameters and seeds cant possibly retain things like the fish bug, and that was how pregenerated worlds were posted in the 40d 'worldgen cookbook'. Of course the fish wouldnt end up the same but geological features would.

And I quite agree that we should make a new worldgen cookbook.

This creates a large world, with several oceans, one evil, 2 neutral, and one enormous good one, that is about half of the water on the map. It is highly volcanic, with around 200 volcanoes, many of which border the oceans, and a large number of swamps and mountains
