Slade *SPOILERS*
« on: May 12, 2010, 11:04:36 pm »

I've read that you can channel out slade due to a bug, though I haven't bothered to try it myself, and as weapons CAN be made out of it in the arena, while other rocks cannot, is it possible that channeling out slade ceilings could allow you to create slade weapons or armor? crafts even?

Every time someone makes a weapon out of Slade, Toady gets a nosebleed.

The bug will only allow you to channel out a slade floor, not a slade wall (i.e. you don't get slade stone).

Also, I doubt there is a workshop reaction in the raws to make it - all materials are available in the arena while only some work in fortress mode (So no platinum warhammers, either)... the only way to get it would be a strange mood.

Slade has the [IS_METAL] tag due to using the metal template, hence its showing up in arena mode. It doesnt realy come to any effect in fortress mode.

right, but the question im trying to ask is: could you theoretically get a slade rock, and with that slade rock, in a strange mood, create something out of slade?

Yes, theoretically and with extreme luck.  It seems that rarely the Demonic fortress will be generated with an unsupported section which will cave in and leave slade boulders behind.  See http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=709
Additionally, if you find out where the Slade is, you can apparently use ramps to dig it out and get stone, as long as the slade wasn't revealed yet.  See http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=1444

There is currently a page on the wiki for pregenerated worlds but at the moment it is empty.  I guess we should put our seeds and the like over their.

Methinks wrong thread?

Interesting. Sounds similar to when I realized you could dig up/down stairs into semi-molten rock from below so long as it hadn't been revealed. It's the same bug, I imagine.

I heard rumors about SMR being a "magmafer" - an infinite magma source. Is this accurate?

Oh good, now I can build a goblin hell-dropping pit. SMR floors can be destroyed by cave-in, yes?

No - it seems that falling natural walls/floors are destroyed as soon as they hit the SMR. It was tested in the magma submarine thread.
