Oki, well shameless advertising again.

Seems that we're going to be getting an influx of Mac users, so I openly invite you lot to join the Dwarf Fortress Community on steam. We have our own TF2 server, and its a great place to arrange games with people you know.

Does Steam... boost your download rate or something? When I was downloading Portal the speed was tripled from what I usually max out at.

Ever consider a Mount and Blade Warband server?

Awesome enough to say "STEAM'S SERVERS ARE TOO BUSY TO LET YOU RE-INSTALL TF2 RIGHT NOW (UNLESS YOU RETRY 6 TIMES) BECAUSE EVERYONE AND THEIR LITTLE DOG TOO IS DOWNLOADING PORTAL."

As someone who paid $50 for The Orange Box, I feel highly insulted.

You get a medal in Team Fortress 2. A $20 medal. Best money I ever spent, that's for sure.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

It seems to be buggy for me...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Or is it normal to show two different download rates(and neither of them seem to be right, though one of them might be)?

Schroedinger's download.

So how much is the Orange Box if you buy the media itself? Is it still $50 and Steam just has a nice discount if you buy the Steam controlled version?

All versions are steam controlled.  They're Valve games.

I ... I don't understand. So you're saying if I buy Half-Life I would need to have an Internet connection, and if the Steam servers go offline I could never play my game again?

Assuming I'm an honest customer, of course.

Is that right?

Once you load the game the first time, it marks down your license and you can play offline forever.

Okay I misunderstood Ioric. I thought the game had always-on server-checking DRM.

Akura, i am assuming the new download page will be a bit buggy, seeing as it is new.

Steam just completely changed .. well.. everything everything really.

but i generally do get much faster downloads on steam than anywhere else
